I am in need of someone who can make me two sheaths for a small gentlemans pocket knife. Both sheaths should be identical, and have a spring clip on the back so I can wear the sheath either on a belt or in a pocket. I am looking for one brown and one black sheath basically to be able to have the sheath match whatever dress clothes I am wearing at the time. I would like the sheaths either in Alligator/snake/something similar, or Stingray. Please let me know if any of you would like to do this kind of work, and what your rates would be, or if you know anyone whom I should contact for this work. Here are a couple of pictures of the knife (one open and one closed with the sheath that came with it...this sheath just isn't what I need):

Thank you all in advance for your assistance. To any Moderators: if this doesn't fit in this portion of the forum, please feel free to move it to the correct location.

Actually...many holster makers should be able to do this. Its pretty basic stuff...its just finding one that will do the knife stuff. I could do it...not soon but could do it. If youre not in a hurry and someone else doesnt jump at the chance.......give me a yell.

Shoot well and god bless

For that kind of stuff, I use Omar Pineda at http://www.alfonsosgunleather.com/. He's made a few very nice watch straps, belts, and saddle scabbards for me, all from scratch and to my specifications (if you do call Omar and you have the time, ask him about his father Alfonso, Arvo Ojala, and how Bob Munden and other pioneers of the fast-draw sport would hang out at the shop and practice and come up with ever better holster designs).

Of course he's local to me, so that makes things a lot easier. He will probably require you to send in the knife.

Good luck,

-R.

Nice, thanks for the pointer. The funny thing is that I grew up right around where his shop is (originally in Eagle Rock [my parents still live there], and for a while, I rented a place up on Magnolia in Burbank :) ).

My daughter attends Occidental College in Eagle Rock, small world! I was just curious...what constitutes a "Gentleman's Knife"? Are they more polite when you have to defend yourself? Would they keep me out of court in a self-defense situation?
That is a pretty knife, where did it come from?

Yes, it is a small world. A word to the wise: Omar will chew your ear off if you're not careful, but his ramblings are always entertaining.

It's nice to go into his shop and explain to him what you want by pointing at things and saying, "kinda like that, but with this twist and the following addition, and please make sure to leave that out, it's too garish for my taste". Maybe go there when you visit with your parents anyway. And if you do get to show up in person, politely request that Thomas (who's doing the actual cutting and sewing) is present when you explain what you want. I've had minor details get lost in translation before.

(Of course you'll PM me when you're down here - we'll stop by the Firing Line or have drinks at my house).

hahah, I spent most of my senior year in high school getting good and drunk and playing video games at Oxy since my older brother was going there (also, my father went there, my uncle, my aunt, and my grandmother was the head of admittance through the 60's and 70's :) ).

What constitutes a gentleman's knife? hmm, well, mainly, that when you are in an overly pc work environment, if you happen to pull out your SOG TwitchXL, Benchmade Osborne, Cold Steel Ti-Lite, etc..., to open a box, you intimidate people. Unfortunately, if you happen to be shooting for a directorship in the company, this is a bad thing. So since I hate to be without a knife (at the very least because computer equipment comes in silly nearly impossible to open boxes), I had to get something that looks very classy and almost like a nice gold lighter so that people won't be intimidated when I pull it out to open a box ;). At least, that's what constitutes a gentlemans folder to me (that and the ability for the knife to open fast, and be long enough, sharp enough, and strong enough to be useful in self defense if necessary). I don't know if it would keep me or you out of court though if we actually needed to use it in self defense :(

As for the knife itself, it's a Shun Higo Personal Steak Knife (I know, silly name, but it is very well made, and quite pretty, so it should be less intimidating for use in the office).

I'll look forward to it, I love going to shops where the owners are really interested in their work, I've always found that it's one of the ways you know they are going to put in alot of effort to make you happy and get you what you want. :)

Absolutely, next time I head down to see my mother and my little sister I'll shoot you a PM and we can head out to the range, haven't been to the Firing Line in years, so it'll be good to see the place again.
