One of life's pleasures, mine at least, is being able to log on here and view the most beautiful works in the firearms industry built by the most magnanimous individuals I know. Looking at the tarditional lines of Heirlooms Precisions, Ted, Jason and Steve,to Both Chucks and John and their great "eye candy" duty use guns, to the racey lines of both Ned and C.T. But I always am amazed at the ever quiet Stan and his "futuristic" look to his 1911s. I ogled at all of them whenever I get the chance. But I notice that I do not have any from Stan to look at for SHOT. I hope nothing is wrong?

Al,
Like you, I love it here at Eye Candy Central for all the reasons you mentioned. I talked to Stan the other day, so he is alive and kicking. He said that he is up to his eyeballs, but he sounded like he is faring very well.

Stan, how 'bout some pics to prove me right?

Best,
Dave

Just got back from the Shot Show.
Stan is doing well and his pistols are OUTSTANDING!!!!!!
I feel so dump. Stan put one of his pistols in my hand to look at. He kept asking me all these different question of what I thought, I never answered him. I think he thought I was either hard of hearing or ignoring him. The problem was I heard what he was saying but could not answer him I was tongue tied and in shock just admiring the pistol. There are no words to describe the pistol.
I left the Shot Show after spending 45 min. at the LTW booth. I was to dizzy to continue.
The truth of the matter is after seeing all of the LTW custom builds you were just wasting your time looking at anthing else.

Mark, you can certainly keep the photos coming, even if they don't have Stan in them. It's great to see such a display at the LTW booth, and put faces with names.

i went to the LTW booth on saturday and hung around for a good while admiring the "candy" as well...

no Stan...saw his guns...but he was no where to be found.

This is my vote for some pictures of Stan himself and his new "eye candy"!

If you did/do, you are going to handle one of the coolest frontstrap and top of slide treatments I have ever seen.

Stan was an extreme pleasure to talk to and he sure seems to know what he's talking about! He has me sold on his magwell now. I've been using his mainspring housings for a little while now - superb housings by the way.

Great man, great products. I'm glad to have had the chance to meet him and have a conversation.

Stan was not on the boards much because of that whole Witness Protection thing.... oops, was I not supposed to say that?

Naw, he was just busy as hell getting ready for the Show, and it payed off in the things he showed.

Stan's magwell suite is a great thing to have available. He is a deep thinker and still able to hang intellectually after unspecified quantities of Grey Goose.

I am hoping he pops in and gives some more info on that magwell set up, nothing on his site about it and it looks very nice, would be great on my single stack uspsa competition gun.

Wow, that's really evil Mark. I was even standing on my tippytoes and pulling myself up for that picture! :(

Well, me and my ego find it great to be missed....thanks fellas. It was a real challenge getting myself to SHOT, but we made it and it was a great time. Since I have the mike, indulge me a few thoughts about the show........

First and foremost, what an honor and privilege to be a part of something as special as LTW. It was really moving to be there at the drawing for both raffles, and see the culmination of a year's worth of work by crafstmen, and generous support of both ticket buyers and industry contributors. The American Snipers and Cops 4Kids were super appreciative. The charity guns themselves were stunning to behold...it was interesting to see how pistols built on the opposite ends of the custom 1911 spectrum could come together so well by so many smiths. It is neat to be a part of something larger than yourself.

I continue to be humbled also by the character of these guys I call friends. These guys continually put the group's efforts, and the work of others, ahead of their own. All weekend long, I often heard any given smith say to a booth visitor, "thanks, but you really should see the awesome pistol that (fill in the blank other smith) brought. Here, let me show you......"

To the comments above.... it was a real pleasure meeting many of you, thanks for coming by!

Hmmmm.....someone mentioned grey goose, etc. To the best of my recollection, everytime someone else started buying rounds, I was getting grilled by different people about barrel fitting. I'm no paranoid black helicopter guy, but I think there was definitely a conspiracy going on....thankfully, the uh, happier I get, the more I think in metric instead of inches...

As to my stuff, I'll get some pics up soon. The Magwell Suites with integrally machined MSH were well received and in full production; you should be seeing them on more custom pistols soon!

Other highlights, no particular order:

I had a nice chat with gunsmith Bruce Gray, one of my early heroes for his work on both 1911's and Sigs. He's doing well, having moved to Oregon recently to avoid the CA bs. A super nice guy and gentleman. He was very gracious in sharing some TIG hints with me, which I can't wait to get back to the bench to try.

Aaron Harris of Smoking Hole Pistol Design. I truly admired his work in the late 90's that was brazen, bold, cutting edge, and showed agonizing attention to detail. As I started in the industry, I often wondered what became of him. Out of the blue, Aaron stopped by the booth Friday afternoon for a visit. As I understood it from our talk he took a breather to pursue other interests. He's been building guns for the last 10 months or so and it sounds like he's gearing up to come back with a roar. Though we really don't know each other, I believe there was a very natural affinity for one another. As we talked gunbuilding, it was clear that we have felt each other's pain in gunbuilding, as there are similarities in what we do/how we do it. He commented on how much the industry seemed to have changed in the last 10 years, and seemed really pleased to see the, as he put it, ahem, "love" that was present at the LTW booth. I wish him the very best and hope to see him resurface with great success.

Dave Williams and the Springfield Custom crew had a fine display of very nicely built guns. My favorite was a longslide hogslayer that Dave personally built. Jason Chambliss is also a real champ and great gunsmith. Dave and Springfield's continued support of LTW is extremely appreciated!

The 1911 gunsmiths, and Chuck Larson himself, from Rock River stopped by a spell. Really good dudes that care alot about their work and it shows. Their pistols are well made and a great value.

Wilson Combat smiths came by for a few nice visits. Vic Tibbets, whose work I've long admired, is back at Wilson's and it was great to finally meet him. Wilson's guys showed us some very interesting new parts, beautifully made, that we are eager to try out. The pistols in their booths also looked very nicely done.

Wayne Novak was by the booth a couple of times, and continues to prove that he's a real class act in the industry. His booth was of course filled with fine work, and he is a real source of history and knowledge when it comes to 1911's. Of note, he had, all in one continuos piece, a grip safety/MSH/magwell!

Also, not 1911 related, but I'm glad I got to catch up a bit with Freddie Blish at the Aimpoint booth. We first met a few years ago at Gunsite, and he is a first class former Marine. Aimpoint is fortunate to have him on their team. The new Micro series looks awesome, and my carbine will be wearing one soon.

Well much more I can't think of right now, hope to see more of you guys next year!

Where's Stan, you ask?

By the looks of the cool stuff that he brought, he's been over in the shop with his nose to the grindstone!

Not only does he dream up the best magwell package that I've seen and a totally cool traction treatment for the front and back straps, he comes up with really cool marketing type names for them! As always, I'm impressed!

Stan,
Will your magwell be available to the general public or only on your guns? They are perfect looking by the way. Thanks!

Well I saw plenty of Stan in LV..... which was great since we did not get a chance to get together last year at SHOT, although we did at the Single Stack Classic.

People I regret missing at SHOT this year and I plan to do better next year-
John Jardine. He stopped at LTW and nobody called me! Bad LTW guys, bad!
Terry Tussey. I never even knew he was there until I got back and saw the pics!
My friends from 10-8.
LTW friend and Las Vegas resident, Steve J. Guys, was he there? Do I see him on one of the pics talking to Don?
The Nuge. Don't know if he came this year but he usually stops by LTW to say hi.

I did have the pleasure of meeting Major John Plaster, who was kind enough to pick the winning number for LTW #4.
I met author John Ross (Unintended Consequences).
The Jurys. I hope to spend a little more time with them next year. Interesting guys and really, really into custom 1911's!
Spend a lot of time with several Alex's, Nossar, Zimmermann (the .50 GI guy) and Du Pliesse (sp?), designer of the Wilson Combat ADP pistol.
Patrick Sweeney came by a few times. Always a pleasure to see my good friend and favorite gun writer.
I talked to Dave Williams from Springfield on personal and business levels. He is a great guy in either context!
Met one lady each from Rock River and Lewis Machine and Tool. Sharp cookies both and pretty to boot.
I finally met Vic Tibbets and Duane D. from Wilson Combat, and like Stan I was impressed by both guys and the new from-barstock safeties and slide stops. WC is not at all resting on past successes!
I looked at the USFA "Model 1910". Very impressive! I must confess I did not expect it to be so good but it was beautiful and appeared to be really well made.
Dave Manson at Manson Precision Reamers had some of the coolest gunsmithing tools I've ever seen.
The guys from americansnipers.org-- good friends all, some old and some new. Really serious about what they do, with a lot of appreciation from the war zones.

The LTW Booth was a real confidence booster - Stan and Jason make me feel tall!!

John VZ's machinist on the other hand-- made us all feel short. He was the topic of conversation one evening (when he was not present, that's how we work  ). The word genius was used quite a bit.

Other folks I wish I'da seen at SHOT-
Matt Burkett, world class shooter and trainer, who contributed generously to the #4 raffle.
Rob Leatham, although maybe it's best we didn't get together as we are both kinda sweet on Mrs. Burton. I hate to say it but one of these days we're just going to have to have it out. A duel with pistols? Ah, no thanks. Arm wrestling maybe? I'm toast. I was thinking maybe a coloring contest, you know, something that really shows who is the better man  .

That would be an understatement - Watching him reapair the LTW Banner at the booth made me feel like one of Santa's Elves staring in amazement as the Abominal Snow Monster put the Star on the Christmas Tree!!

 THAT IS FUNNY! How about a front strap reconturing contest... you win and get some work done...Ned you'd win twice.

Rob can probably beat me at both coloring AND spelling..... he's one of those despicable people that does everything well I think. But frontstrap contouring, yeah, I might have a chance there...... thanks Mark!
