What do the folks here think of the Dan Wesson 1911's as far as quality, features and a base gun for future projects?

On the 1911 forum under Dan Wesson there is info on a full build a smith in Nevada did. They are fairly nice weapons from what I know, probably in the Springfield loaded class or even better, most of the parts are Ed Brown and they say quality has gone way up since CZ bought them out.

I've had a Pre-CZ DW Cbob that was nothing buy problem. Dont' know how good they are now after CZ bought them out.

We have had 2 of the CZ Dan Wessons in our shop in the last year. Overall they were very good. Looking at them from the rear there were absolutely NO gaps in frame to slide fit. I think they would make a great build.

Some of the issues are the light laser etched markings, unconventional cuts and most are already poorly cut for a beavertail.

You can build a gun on anything, but if I was going to buy a gun, and send it to a gunsmith to toss most of the small parts ANYWAY, I would go with a Colt. In the long run the pony is never a bad move. Crossed Cannons second.
