I absolutely LOVE how you round butted the magwell! That is really beautiful!

What length trigger is that?

Now that's what I call a two-tone pistol! "Color, we don't need no stinking color!"

Like many, I've long admired your work, but this piece is absolutely stunning. I too,
really like the round butt design. The way you worked the lanyard loop in with it all
is simply too cool!

If you ever decide to offer that as a package, you should call it the CWA3, short for
"Can of Whoop Ass, Level Three." ;->

"Whose MSH mag well is that? Steve Morrison piece?"
:?

First pic shows measuring the gap between mag well and bottom of frame. This one was a bit worse than most. Gap is .017".

Image

Turning a pin plug from a bar of stainless steel.

Image

Plug silver soldered in place.

Image

Location is altered by .017" and the new hole is counterbored, drilled and reamed.

Image

Image

No more gaps!

Image

Image

Roughing out the frame. This pistol will be fit with both the mag well and with a standard mainspring housing shown in place.

Image

Drilling the pin hole for the recessed lanyard loop.

Image

Lanyard pocket milled.
Golfballing completed.

Image

Flat bottomed hole cut into each side. Two stainless pins turned on lathe. Will be press fit into the holes and machined to provide a tight fit with the frame.

Image

Pins finished. Ribs peened and fitted.

Image

The visible porosity in the silver solder around the pin hole, only extends to where it filled the original, exterior chamfer.

Now this mag well fits the frame with no play in any direction. Milling and finishing of the internal funnel can begin.

As rough machined.

Image

After contouring with an 1/8" diamond cut carbide burr in a Dremel.

Image

Finished!

Image

Image

Image

Same frame with the fitted standard mainspring housing.

Incredible work! I've always been a bit more of a traditionalist, but that is simply astounding.

Who's leather is that by the way??? Very cool.

You know, I consider myself a pretty good machinist (it's all in the setup, you know :D)... But Chuck, you're a sick man! I decided to try my hand at golfballing and I will say it's an EXCELLENT thing I'm a good TIG welder! And I'm sure as hell not posting pics for that reason!

Anyone else get the idea that Chuck's understanding of the term "drop-in" is different than most of the rest of us? :)

Chuck,

Beautiful pistol as always. Can you share how the pistol is finished (bead blasted, polished....etc.)? I ask because I plan on refinishing my stainless Commander and I want it to have the same look.
