Just got this back from Jason and Ted - Started out as a Rock River Elite Commando I bought as a spec gun from a dealer. Sent it off for some stuff that I decided I wanted (or as in the case of the rear sight - didn't). Sorry for the crappy pics.

Ted Made the grips








It had an Adjustable Novak - Jason reworked the slide and custom made the sight.








Jason recut the feed ramp to get it into spec and did a great polish job




Can't wait to shoot it!!

Pics are not crappy, and the pistol is as far from that as one can possibly be.

I am really happy with it - I am sure that it gave them a few fits, as most of the stuff was factory (Checkering, Beavertail, etc.), so the lines and fit of some of the parts had to be worked around, but it really looks sharp and I expect it will perform flawlessly.

Ooh, I like! I'm not normally a big fan of front slide serrations (or hard chrome, for that matter), but it sure doesn't bother me on that pistol. Even with the fancy grips, she still looks all business with the clean lines and straight-forward roll mark. I love the serrations on the "proper" side of the slide stop, and the slight round-butt treatment is just perfect.

I'm guessing you're in the midst of wrapping that pistol in all manner of fancy animal hide to find just the right piece to do it justice.

Well...the FCS's were already there, and we couldn't do an HP cut due to their placement. I would rather not have them, but I don't really care either way. Overall it is a great piece, and originally I bought it as a gift to myself to celebrate the birth of my youngest daughter, so I can't get rid of it.

I think Jason and Ted did a great job, and I look forward to trying to wear off all that hard chrome !!!!

I was also "given" a Rock River Arms 1911 to celebrate the birth of my daughter (one and only).

Very nice 1911. I have always been drawn to hard chromed commander length 1911's with front cocking serations.

I love hard chrome.

I guess I'm a little confused. Other than a few cosmetic issues, I don't see where it is much different than my own RR. What exactly was done to it?

The details on this pistol are incredible and the difference between this and a stock RRA is HUGE! No offense intended here but the cosmetic changes alone are stunning and well worth the price of admission imho over the stock RRA guns. Re-cutting and polishing the feed ramp, I would imagine some upgraded internals, rear sight, straightened frame lines, dehorn and recontour, that beautiful slide stop and thumb safety, round butt, serrated slide top and rear and of course those incredible stocks and hard chrome finish...a lot of work went into this thing. And that's just what my untrained eye can see. I would imagine there are detail's that take awhile to full absorb and appreciate.

Adadagain hit most of it, and he is right - the difference IS huge. I am sure I could have ordered it almost like this from RR, but having artists like Ted and Jason work on it makes it even more special.

Little things that take a while to notice - like the 75 LPI serrations on the front sight (which was fit, test fired and height corrected prior to getting the serrations and the tritium vial). The god awful Adjustable Novak was replaced with that custom sight, which involved silver soldering in a filler (at the front of the dovetail for the pivot pin) and then massaging it to match the slide - wouldn't even know it was there. The rear slide serations that perfectly match the custom rear sight (which BTW has the right and left edges slightly radiused to reduce glare), which also required blending the rear of the slide and frame PERFECTLY (it was no where close from the factory). The barrel recrown which is perfectly flush with bushing (which got a nice chamfer - cosmetic only, but there none the less). The grip safety was tuned to my spec, as well as the fit of all the internals. Slide was flat topped and given the curved arrow treatment at 50 LPI. A nice hand bevel of the mag well, as well as the round butt on the MSH. Chamfer on the bottom of the slide, the custom slide stop, best quality single sided safety, Hand Made Custom Grips with TIMED grip screws, ....

I didn't mention everything on the build sheet, but there was lots of work involved in this gun - the kind of things that only get done correctly by a master. The kinds of things that are only worth it to some - like buying really good Scotch instead of a Miller Light.

I should have added - had I done the whole thing over again it would have been a Vintage Pre-80 Colt Combat Commander, but as mentioned before, I bought it to celebrate the little one, so it is here to stay and I wanted to dress it up. This was my first 1911, bought prior to any knowledge of LTW and the guys...but I have learned

Yeah, that's kinda the problem with good stuff. Before you know it's out there, you can be content with much less. However, once you taste the finer stuff, there is no going back. Now you truly have an 'heirloom' that you can pass on to your girl when you're an old fart. You ARE going to teach her how to shoot right?
