For most of the membership here on the forum the name Chip Breeze (known on the internet as "Witherspoon") needs no introduction. From our inception he supported LTW and its members. He was a law enforcement officer for the Caroline County Sheriff's Department for thirty years and prior to his passing was a full time officer for the Bowling Green Police Department. He was also a gentleman of the highest standards. It seems the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. A couple friends of his JR Munsey and Al Shear, both police officers who shared a beat with Chip talked to us here at LTW and came up with a project to honor Chip's life, his family, and his profession. Within a short time JR Munsey donated a stainless steel Caspian frame and a carbon steel Caspian slide. These were the beginnings of a fine pistol. And we could not wait to get started.

Then it came to the question of who was going to work on and finish this project. Fortunate for all of us we have guys like Chuck Rogers, Don Williams, John Harrison, and a friend of Chip's and a great smith Dave Sams who all jumped at the chance and participated in putting together a gun in which the proceeds will go to Chip's son Justin. Justin is a college student struggling to get by and educate himself. His father provided guidance and a blueprint for this young man to be successful.

We have done a number of project guns, charity guns, and other small endeavors that fulfill our mission statement by providing relief to people who are not as fortunate as most of us here at LTW. However, we rarely meet the people who benefit by these projects. A couple of years ago we did a similar project for one of the icons in our industry Terry Tussey. Terry had suffered a horrible accident that took him away from his bench for quite some time. That was special because most of us knew Terry and what kind of person he was. Well, this one is also special because again most of us knew Chip Breeze and more importantly what kind of human being he was. Always willing to help someone, support a good cause, and never hesitated to jump in a patrol car and take care of business. However, this one is also leaves a little lump in our collective throats because this is the first project we have done for someone who has passed away.

Needless to say on behalf of all of us at LTW who build the guns, maintain the website, organize the projects and so forth, it is an honor to be a part of doing something that will ultimately benefit Justin Breeze, and done in remembrance of his father Chip "Witherspoon" Breeze.

The pictures will tell a better story but as I stated earlier the base components are a stainless Caspian frame and carbon steel slide. The gun has the very popular and functional "golf ball" treatment by Chuck Rogers along with a number of the detailed modifications Chuck is famous for. The machine work and other modifications were done by John Harrison, Don Williams, and Dave Sams. The guns sports a pair of VZ double diamond micarta stocks by John Van Zyck, a Kart barrel, CMC grip safety, flat topped and serrated slide top, CMC grip safety, match grade trigger components, with the final fit and finish done at Heirloom Precision. This package will come with an IBS holster from John Ralston of 5 Shot Leather and a corresponding mag pouch. It is obviously a classic two tone offering in remembrance of classic man filled with character and who dedicated his life to law enforcement and to helping others. It seems things have come full circle.

The gun will be offered via a silent auction. The auction will start on Friday October 10th at 12:00p.m. MST. and end on Monday October 13th at 8:00p.m. MST. Please PM me with your bids and I will post the latest bids without a name attached. Once the auction is over I will post the winner's name. The final payment details will be worked out that week.
There is a reserve of $2000.00 on this pistol.

I have already been corrected by JR Munsey that he was not the one who donated the frame and slide, my notes are wrong. However, I will figure out who the extrordinary person was who donated those components to this project. My apologies. JR, you are still one hell of a guy. 8)

Digg'n it! The "Functional Golf Ball treatment" is quite nice. The pattern adds an asthetic quality which seems to play off the colors of the frame and slide. The ball cuts pop off the polished flats and the frame as well. Is there a special name for the crown? Does it shoot bullets?

That's a smoker right there. And looks pretty close to a gun Mr. Erickson is building for me. Perhaps a matching set...I'm in. Good cause, good group of guys, good stuff. Well done gentlemen.

I could write pages but I think I'll just keep this very short. Chip was my best friend. The best cop I ever knew. This country lost a great defender of justice when he died. I miss him.

How I remember him, THE BIG GUY, hard at work.

I cannot thank all who had a part in this enough. I know Betty and Justin Brezee will be honored as well as Chips memory. This is what LTW stands for.

I had done some business with Chip before LTW's inception, and he was indeed a gentleman of the highest order. I have a weakness for peace officers (remember when they called them that?), and Chip was just the nicest man. We all miss him and his input and help on LTW. Hopefully this auction will help Chips son through his college years. Thanks to all.

Chip reminds me of my first Sergeant....Big boy that you just knew you didn't want to get crossed up with.

Just a side note...look at that beavertail fit, just seamless. Chuck did a fine job there. All the smiths on this one certainly did Chip proud.

I talked with Chip a couple times and I new he was a gentleman since the beginning, friends like Al S. talk nothing but a good things about him every time Chip's name up.

As Ned did mentioned before I made a couple holsters for him, and my last work for him was part of a special set he was keeping in the safe as special birthday present for his son Justin, which I have to contact very soon in order to complete one of Chip's wishes.

I´m glad to see this coming up this way

My hat is off to all of you guys,

Alex

A top notch pistol for a great cause. Chip would love it, cetainly. He was the kind of guy everyone would be proud and fortunate to have known.

Sorry to "take up more space" in this thread, but I feel the need to say something else. Chip was VERY proud of this website and invited me to join. He was VERY proud of the pistols and leather he had done by the artists on here, and as far as I can recall he had something from ALL of the different artists on here. Al and Jim...we talked about the two of you on many a night shift, and his love and respect for both of you was tremendous, especially you Al.
As a side note, can one of the board members remind me of what Dave Samsa did on this pistol? I know Mark had told me at some point during the build, but I cannot for the life of me remember! Again, a BEAUTIFUL piece, in memory of a beautiful person! I'm sure Chip would have loved this one!--John

John, Dave Sams fit the safeties (both grip and thumb), and did the trigger work on this pistol. Did a heck of a nice job, which isn't any surprise to anyone familiar with his work. Steve had thought that Chuck Rogers did the safety, but we asked Dave if he wanted to contribute and he was more than happy to do so. Thanks,

Well I was out for a few hours today and was pleasently surprised to find we had two bids.

The first was for $2100 and I promptly had a second for $2200.00.

So that is where we stand right now $2200.00 with about one day left.

Thanks to everyone for the continued interest.

Stev

Anyone who's seen the pictures will have a feel for how special this gun is. Maybe some don't realize how rare a bird this is, though.

To get Chuck, Don, John, and myself to collaborate on a gun means one of two things - it's either a charity gun that you'll have to be lucky enough to win, or in this case a good cause auction.

One thing for sure - there's no waiting for an exceptional body of work. I hope everyone's not waiting until the last minute

I have to agree with Ted here. Actually this project was originally started as a gun for Chip himself as he helped out LTW in so many ways, but he unfortunately passed away before that came to fruition. Because of that, we decided that the best thing we could do was use it to help out his son. I did the frame to slide fit, did the Kart barrel installation and a few other small items that escape me, but the workmanship on this gun, the quality of the components and the overall flow of this one is top notch. Everyone involved on this project went all-out on this gun. We would really like to see as much as possible here to help Chips son with his college costs.

It was a real honor to be part of the build team on the Brezee project. Chip had been a repeat customer and had sent others my way as well. He was always a delight to do business with and my chief disappointment is that I didn't get a chance to know him face to face and that he never got to see this pistol. He'd have liked it.

It's been several months since this pistol left my hands and I'm not 100% clear on every detail that was my work. That said, I know that's my treatment on the top of the slide, so I'd have to think that I likely had my hands on the sight cuts and probably ball cuts & rear slide serrations.

Guys, whoever is high bidder on this will get a truly unique pistol that's pretty much impossible to duplicate, as this combination of 'smiths just don't whip these things up as part of daily commerce. I hope folks recognize that this one goes to help fund college for Chip's son, so it's really benefitting one of our own. Now get those bids coming!!

Somebody's going to snag a nice rig with no waiting time - all the while benefiting someone deserving.

Looks like a win/win to me.

The high bid is currently $2600.00. This should make for an interesting rest of the day.
Thanks again,
Steve

Now the gloves are coming off...time to trash the hotel room. We have a bid of $2950.00. Additionally if this bidder wins he is going to put the leather up for sale and donate the proceeds to Chip's son Justin as well. I have said this before but all of you are something else.
Thanks,
Steve

If anyone has been wanting an LTW gun, this is THE ONE to get!
No waiting and no luck(this is not a raffle) required.
Just bid high and bid often!
:D
This is a full-house beauty.
A similar gun from the LTW smiths would set you back well over $5000 and you'd have to patiently wait through several Christmasses.
And again, all the money goes to help a fine young man through college.

Thanks to all for the support gents... this is going great!!

Someone is really going to get an exquisite piece with this gun and an exceptional carry rig to tote it in. Throughout the years I have owned some of the nicest customs guns available and to say I'll be officially jealous of whoever is successful in winning this gun would be putting it lightly. This is truly a one time chance to own an extremely rare piece while adding to the legacy of Chip by helping out a deserving fellow.

Thanks to all involved! :D

It is interesting to reflect on what you (our membership) is capable of. We have always said that LTW has the best members anyone in this industry could ask for. And one of you just proved it again. One of the bidders just PM'd me and said regardless of whether he wins the gun or not he is going to send a $300.00 check to help this young man through school.

I know people who wouldn't help someone they knew. To help out someone in this fashion you have never met and on the word of others takes character and compassion. All of us are proud to be a part of LTW.

Just for fun the highest bidder will receive one of the famous grey LTW t-shirts that were popular at last year's Shot Show. In fact I am wearing mine today. Thanks again to all of you.

Steve

This is getting fun. I think MST is 3 hours behind me so.... still 2 1/2 hours. Anything under the figure Chuck mentioned-- a bargain, not to mention the wait issue.

We just had a financial donation by one of the LTW soldiers that has seen serious duty in the Middle East. I know times are tight but this is a sign that people haven't fallen apart. Assuming the donor wants to remain anonymous I will respect that. However, you would not be surprised if I told you.

The high bid is still $3300.00.
