Hello: I recently purchased the "commanderized" Browning HP pictured below. I don't have it in my possession yet and therefore can't offer any more info than can be discerned from the photos. The seller said he acquired it as part of an estate sale where the deceased had some 350 alleged high end guns acquired mostly in the 60's and 70's. I have asked about it on a couple of other forums and have learned that it may have been customized by the late Austin Behlert. Anybody recognize the work? Thank you in advance.

Sure looks like a Behlert. The trigger guard, S&W sights, stippled front strap, and the screw-in bushing all look like Austin's work.

I am no expert, but...It looks like Behlert's work. I spoke to Mr. Behlert a few months before he passed. Wish I could have gotten to know him better, real gentleman, and a wealth of knowledge. Builders of that time had to make ALOT of the custom parts, as aftermarket parts were not available. One of the greats, and the pistol is a beauty! Great find.

BTW Behlerts son in law (I think) is still in the custom gun business, but his name is escaping me at the moment. He may have some more info. Anyone know his name?

Art Leckie that was it. Did not know he had passed, sad. Never personally seen any of Art's work but given his mentor, I am sure it was also very nice.
