Just finished up Larry's 1911 pistolsmith course here in Council Bluffs, IA. After 5 long, hard days we came away with 6 very nice pistols...and a bit of Carpal Tunnel! This cubicle dweller definitely does not spend nearly enough time working with the hands.
I was truly amazed at the amount of information passed to us by Larry based on his impressive amount of experience with the 1911 platform. There is definitely more to the inner workings of the 1911 than meets the eye!
The class was made up of 2 Blackwater contractors, 1 LE Officer, 1 Soldier, 1 Fireman and myself. Most of us were pretty familiar with the platform, but we all had a lot to learn.
To top the whole thing off, Larry completed a couple pistols of his own, first was his 10K gun (it'll take $10,000 to get this out of his hands!) and next up was a copy of the first pistol he was issued in his former unit.
Below are some pics of my creation. I've still got some work to do with final smoothing and such. I also need to replace the thumb safety as I was experiencing some bounce during firing in spite of a very positive engagement with the plunger. This was actually one that Larry had not seen before, so I should have the new Wilson tomorrow.
