I did a search and only found one thread for Nossar's prototype. (which looks great)

I am going to be "forced" to carry from time to time using a tuckable holster.

A) I need to find the best one and decide on the most realistic gun to use with it.

I carry P-35 & Commanders (4.25 & 4in).

I am 6' 1" at 176 lb with a 33 waist and medium fit build. I know these guns are tuckable, but are they "really" tuckable or should I think of getting a Khar 9 or something like that as my tuckable day gun?

B) I really prefer P-35 & Commanders (4.25 & 4in) but if they are not "really tuckable" for dress evenings then please suggest which gun you have experience with, please!

I would also choose a Kahr, either a P45 or P9, if I was going to carry tucked.

I would also probably go with a Kahr PM-9 or Glock 26/27 type pistol, both of which I carried several years ago in a tuckable holster. The Kahr worked BEAUTIFULLY in this capacity, but my personal experience with the G-27 wasn't so good. You wouldn't think by looking at the two, but the thickness of the Glock (espcially at the rear of the slide) gave me quite a bit of a challenge in keeping it concealed. The Kahr was much thinner and lighter, making for a more comfortable all day carry, with nobody being any wiser that I was armed. I wore the rig for about 2 years while on a "break" between L.E. gigs, as an "unarmed" security officer in a very high risk environment (never fear...I was still a sworn reserve officer in VA, so I was covered legally).
With the proper holster choice, you should do very well, part of my problem with the Glock setup was that the holster (from a big name company that was one of the first to offer a tuckable) did not stay in place very well, causing shifting and discomfort. Best regards__John

Thanks, I'll check out the Khars.

Would an EMP be as small as a Kahr? I have handled the EMP, but not the Kahr.

Matt do you make anything tuckable? (I know it would be a travesty to tuck away your work  )

Thanks Again!

I haven't played with an EMP in much detail, just at a gunshow when they first came out and therefore have no "side-by-side" comparison, but the EMP seems a bit bigger although not by much. One thing to remember when you're talking deep concealment such as a tuckable, is that the EMP has the fire controls and safeties of a 1911, so therefor more things to hang up in a hasty presentation. I think the Kahr or Glock with their smooth exterior ("bar of soap" are almost ideal for this type of carry. Remember, you are going to be adding a few extra steps to the presentation process, so the less you add the better (such as clearing a shirt-tail that has tangled in the safety lever/hammer/beavertail-remember Murphy WILL be with you when the stuff hits the fan!!)
Hope this will help, just remember when you decide and get a package together, PRACTICE with it...and wear it around the house awhile too before going to the office, it takes a little getting used to and may not be as invisible as you think!!__John

I agree with JR on the carry choice. As many years (decades now :)) as I've carried the 1911 pattern pistol, I don't like them for pocket or tucked carry. I think the G36 would be the only Glock I'd try tucking though. The others are just too thick. The Kahrs are thinner and also have a thin mag so they (the mags) are easier to comfortably carry concealed. A small frame or medium frame wheel gun can also work fine but the hammer should be covered or the spur removed.

Yes I have designed 3 or 4 different types of tuckable holsters. From simple to complicated construction. Shoot me an email if you like and I'll send some photos.

I have carried a Colt CCO and a Walther P99c in a Sparks VMII with the tuckable clips. Worked great and neither were noticed. Alex Nossar is sending me one of his new designs for a HK P7 to try, I originally ordered a Stingray IWB but Alex called me and asked me to try this out. If I don't care for it, I'll send it back and get what I originally ordered. Can't beat that deal! The P7 is very top heavy so it will be interesting to see how it works with this design. Should be here next week so I'll post a report when I get it and have had a chance to try it out! I'm far from a fan of the tuckable design but at times they can serve a purpose.

I have a VM II and I own the clips, but they do not appear to allow you to tuck in much shirt. I'm in the Rocky Mountains and dressy flannel shirts and the ilk have a lot of tail, so I have not messed with the clips since I got them... mainly b/c they are a major pain in the a$$ (for me) to change out, so I'm hoping to find a VERY tuckable holster that is dedicated to the times I MUST tuck. I guess I need a dedicated "Tuck Gun" as well.

Looked at the Kahrs today. SPORTSMANS WAREHOUSE was almost totally out of guns and the counters at GANDER MNT were 2 people deep :-(
This is upsetting to me as I do not see it as AWB fear, but as AWB acceptance :-( I did get to see the Kahrs in both 9 & 45. Interesting. Very slim & small. I was impressed with the sharp plastic checkering on the 45 which was a hint that it might have a bit of recoil ;-) I thought the sights were very good & useable for guns in their category.

One other bit of advice that I have picked up over the years, both as a police officer and as a licenced civilian, make friends with a good tailor and you life will be a LOT easier! You could possibly have the material trimmed or altered on some of your shirts to assist you in carriying concealed. If you explain to your tailor what your unique needs are, any good one should be able to assist you. I have had many clothes modified over the years with good results. Another couple of options you might consider if you must wear a tucked in shirt are the belly band types, or one of my common methods for my J-frame is the Ken Null USH series of shoulder holsters. The USH series is a lightweight upside-down shoulder holster worn under a tucked in shirt, and is VERY effective at least in my useage. This holster IS available for the mini-Glocks and I'm sure if you call Mr. Null he will advize on the Kahrs. Again, I had my tailor sew one of the buttons on my shirt over the buttonhole, and add a small piece of velcro where the button used to be. With the shirt tucked in my hand will penetrate the velcro and allow instant access to my pistol. Over the years I have gotten prety fast with this rig and like it VERY much. An added bonus is that his prices aren't bad and the last one I bought from him was in hand in just under 2 weeks! Sorry to all the members for getting so long winded, but I hope this will help!--John
