Hey guys, I have been trying to make my own holsters for awhile now and I have fionally made something that I think is worth sharing. I made this for a Colt Commander using 6/7 oz leather and saddle stiching and hand boning. Please let me know what you think and if you have any comments good or bad that would help me improve.

Rob,
It looks nice to me. I like the wide spacing between the belt loops.

Rob,
I agree with Al..it looks like a nice rig, and I too like the spacing on this one. Like I mentioned I have been using the #1 Landshark Holster that you sent me a year or so, and even that first attempt has been working pretty well. While I have not had as much time using it with the Officer's ACP as I would like, it seems to help the heavy little bugger ride well, so keep up your progress my friend...looking good!--John

It looks like it has a little more forward cant than usual. I wish my Exec. Comp held my gun just a LITTLE more forward.
Nice job.

Hey Rob:
It looks pretty good. It's a nice color combination.

Constructive criticism for the next one:
-Try to straighten out your stitch lines to the rear of ther dust cover (more parallel to the line of the dust cover).
-Run you outer seams a little closer to the edge of the material.
-Use a heavier bevel on the edges.
-If you want to use reinforcement along the whole top of the holster, try using a lighter weight for that purpose.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the kind words and advice. Basicly I copied this design from Alex Nossar. I like it because the rear wing pulls the butt of a 1911 in nice and tight but you don't have the added front wing like on say a Versa Max. I find the front wing to be unecessary for my carry needs. I also like the distance between the loops.

As to the can't it is adjustable and right now I am experimenting with a more forward can't.

I agree Matt with everything you said. And I am planning on working your suggestions into my next build. I used a full length mouth reinforcement only because it just seemed easier then say stoping halfway. I intend to try a shorter one next. What weight leather do you recomend for the mouth reinforcer? I am not sure I really need one at all? I just use it as something to anchor the snaps to.

I intend to order thinner leather and make another one. I am having a devil of a time getting the ends of my belt loops round and even. The ones is the picture look good only because I had them already precut from another holster.
There has got to be a round punch I can buy. For now I have been cutting them square then trying to round them with a sanding belt but it never looks good.

Matt, as to the edge bevel what size do you recomend and do you use a round bevel or more of a square one?

thanks again guys.

Hey Rob:
1. Try 5 oz
2. https://www.siegelofca.com/view_cat_product.asp?id=43
3. I've seen the size vary from different makers so probably a #3 but maybe a #2. I think something like the #127 on this page would work for you. https://www.siegelofca.com/view_cat_product.asp?id=19

I pointed out Osborne tools because they are darn good tools without being very expensive. Also, I directed you to Siegels because they're online and are nice to deal with. You can buy Osborne tools from other suppliers.

Now you only have to clean the fish...much better than throwing bait...or is it?

Does one go directly from apprentice to master, or is there some period of time spent as a journeyman baiter?

More seriously, its awesome how you guys help those trying to get started!!!

Looks good and I love the color combination. The only question that I have is about the loop that looks like it is positioned against the slide. Is the snap covered on the inside or something? Just seems like it would have too much of an opportunity to scratch the pistol.

Actually the forward snap is mounted only through the collar. so it is between the holster body and the collar - no chance it can scrath the slide.
