We brought a boat-load of display guns to this years SHOT Show and I’m having a hard time getting caught up with photos of them all. So for this installment I figured I give it a ‘one, two’ punch with a Government Model from Steve and a Lightweight Commander from Ted.

First up the Government Model by Steve...

Image

Steve built this gun using a McCormick frame and Caspian slide. As with most all of the guns we build this pistol was treated to a Kart barrel and EGW barrel bushing. The lines on the frame were straightened, the front strap was high-cut and serrated, and a serrated main spring housing was blended to match. The slide wears a our Professional Grade rear sight with a Gold Line front sight and also features a slightly different arrow pattern on the flattened slide top. The frame sports a Wilson “Bulletproof“ grip safety, EGW machined thumb safety, as well as best quality internals throughout the gun. The gun is finished in traditional bluing with a polished slide sitting on top of a matte frame and the whole works is topped off with a set of VZ ETC grips.

The guns is a well thought out using piece and it's a composition that makes for a great carry gun. Enjoy!

Next up is the Lightweight Commander by ol’ Theo...

This gun was built on a 1951 LW Commander that has been resurrected into a Signature Grade carry Commander. As is standard fare on Signature Grade works this pistol got Ted’s standard compliment of modifications... Kart barrel, EGW barrel bushing, flattened and serrated slide top, PG rear sight and Gold Line front, complete line straightening, 30lpi checkering front and rear, serrated rear of slide, Wilson “bulletproof” beavertail, EGW thumb safety, and of course the best quality internals elsewhere in the gun. If you look closely you’ll note a slightly different pattern on the spring plug and of course nitre blued pins and screws help accent the polished blue finish. With desert ironwood stocks helping to dress in the round-butt modification all one needs to do is drop this in their holster and you’re ready for business! Enjoy!

You guys are killing me. The single most amazing thing about you folks is your ability to out do yourselves consistently. As if I needed any more reasons for insomnia...Steve builds an absolutely stout carry gun thar is all business, yet artfully executed. Ted...oh Ted...you have once AGAIN melded form and function in perfect harmony. Everything on that LWC is understated and wonderfully comfortable. The treatment of the GI plug and the round butt are my favorite points. I apologize for my style of rant, but art affects us all differently. Pistols such as these cause me to let loose like this. Saving my pennies furiously.........Chris out.

Steve's creation there is a damned fine piece of steel. I had a few other little comments I wanted to add, but I scrolled down too far and now can't remember.

> Ted's LW Commander.

GOOD GOD that's sweet! That might well be the most beautiful pistol I've ever seen.

Those are two seriously beautiful pistols. Both of them caught and held my attention in Vegas. I'm pleased to say that they have the same effect sitting in front of my monitor.

Those are two super-clean machines! No surprise... we've come to expect nothing less from Ted and the HP boys.

My top three favorite features of the guns in order of priority are: (1) the obvious straight lines and flat flats of both pistols; (2) those hand-crafted desert ironwood stocks on the Commander; (3) the amazing photography that effectively captures all the above. Great work, Gentlemen.

Besides everything else being incredible, the feature that I always appreciate is the fabulous contours of the grips, especially the manner in which they match the rounded lines near the bottom of the mainspring housing and frame. Very nice.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. The Govt model I built is very similar to what I would build for myself. It is hard to find the McCormick frames anymore but as a "one off" type of build they are excellent. The gun shoots like a laser and was alot of fun to build.

Those VZ stocks are quickly becoming my favorite. The checkering is nice and sharp in all the right places. Anyway nice to get back on the forum a little bit. I have been putting some shooting projects together for the Sheriff's Office and shooting some new guns. Hopefully I can get back here more often. Ted is always telling me I'm late for work.

In reverse,
I find it really special the older the pistol. I'd be proud to carry it.

Gov't
Clean, naked, and simply understated. Just the way I prefer.
