This EMP took a different direction from the others that I've built. The client wanted to modify this pistol for concealed carry and anything that didn't further that mission was left off the table. This EMP features a few Harrison Design goodies that I'm especially proud of and that you'll see more of on future builds.

The rear sight is a prototype of my HD-004 Extreme Service rear sight that fits the popular Novak cut. Production of this item will begin shortly and will offer this sight in both standard height, +.050" taller version for short pistols and both a T1 (single dot) and T2 (2 dot) night sights. The night sight variants will feature "Deep Dots" using Trijicon lamps set in below flush by appr. .060" to limit the stray "glow" from the lamps off to the sides while giving the operator normal lamp glow. Thanks to Ned Christiansen for turning me onto this and allowing me to incorporate them into my product line.

The Extreme Service slide stops are designed and manufactured from the ground-up to offer a rugged, durable slide stop that will serve your needs for operation, regardless of weather, temperature, gloved hands or wet hands. The thumb shelf has a unique arched shape to offer secure purchase to your thumb, should you need to manually lock back your slide either administratively, or during a malfunction clearance. CNC machined from high alloy stainless and carbon steel forgings from one of America's most renowned firearms manufacturers, Extreme Service slide stops are then heat treated to give a long life. The Extreme Service slide stops feature a consistently dimensioned .200" diameter pin and a lock back lug that is correctly shaped and sized to fit and work properly on correctly dimensioned 1911 receivers. Available in blued carbon steel and stainless steel, in both .45 as well as .38/9mm/.40/10mm.

Enough of the shameless plugs, let me mention the rest of the EMP goodness afoot here. The bottom rear corner was treated to a RoundButt to keep it from digging into the palm of your hand. I raised the front strap and machined scallops into it and the new VZ Gripps aluminum main spring housing. Speaking of VZ, the grip panels are a new design that John and the guys at VZ are making for me. I call them Carry Groove grips and the design's foundation was to make a purpose built concealed carry grip that does not snag cover garments causing printing, wear jacket linings, yet gives up nothing to other grip designs in terms of your ability to grip the pistol.

The factory beavertail was retained due to the poor weldability of the 7075 aluminum frame. An EGW bar stock thumb safety replaces the factory ambi unit. Fire control is handled by my Extreme Service ignition group and solid long trigger. And yes, we did have to pop for just a little touch of bling with the deep muzzle crown. A Carry Bevel job finished everything up for the all-matte black DLC finish from IonBond. And I shortened a couple of mags for flush fit. All of the parts mentioned here are available from my web store, located at https://shop.HarrisonCustom.com
Thanks for looking!

Hi Greg, VZ Grips make the Carry Groove grips exclusively for me. They are available on my web store and Brownells will have them listed shortly. Thanks!

John,

Love those grips. Your Slide Stop has a very interesting shape to it. I know your customer will enjoy his EMP; I carry mine daily when at home and it's about as perfect as I could ask for (thanks Ned). Now for an EMP in .357 SIG...

Beautiful work John.

John,

Any concerns (integrity or legal) if you were to surface grind off the badging on the slide? It seems to me that if I had a custom from you all I would want is your name on the slide. If so, what would that cost, approximately?

Very, very nice pistol, and yes, I would also like to see it in the SIG. 357.

I got to handle this pistol today as the owner is a friend of mine. While the pictures are outstanding, the pistol in hand is something else. The trigger is just amazing, and the gun just perfectly sits in the hand. This is one nice CCW.

I liked the EMP's when I held one in stock form, but this one is rediculous. This would really make for a very nice every day carry gun, outstanding work.

I got to test one of John's EMPs a while back. I am a .45 guy, but I've never been able to get that little pistol off my mind. This one has a few new features I really like, too. Nice work, John.

that is a awesome little CCW, very well done. how are the reliability of those little guys? i know some smiths won't do reliability packages on anything less then a commander.

Like all compact and sub-compact auto pistols, the do not respond well to a loose grip or weak upper body part of the stance, but when given a solid platform, I have been delighted by the reliability as well as the typical accuracy these little shooters have.

Beautiful job. Love the rear sights. Does anything else have to be done to make the EMPs completely reliable with hollowpoints?
