Sorry, but I don't know how to post pics (and haven't taken anything but quick shots yet)...

What is it ? A Jim Hoag Master Grade 6' longslide. Two-tone, with all the bells and whistles from the early 1980s - squared and checkered trigger guard, checkered front strap and mainspring housing, rear of slide including the extractor and back end of ejector, real Swenson ambis, real Bomar rear sight, Bar-Sto barrel, full length guide rod, Hoag's own beavertail, flat top and serrated slide, bobbed hammer.

I have been storing a copy of American Handgunner from 1979 that featured an article and pictures of Hoag's guns, along with an original catalog from 1985.

And to top it off, a Gordon Davis cross-draw for the 6".

Now, if I could only shoot as well as Mickey Fowler

Congratulations! But if finding a Grail is not a good enough reason to master the art of internet pictures then I guess nothing is

Too busy shooting, etc.

I'll send them to anyone interested.

That's gotta be fun, finding something after waiting that long.

I met Jim Hoag at the 1988 Steel Challenge and he was very pleasant to talk to. Last I knew he is still with us. It might be fun to write him, maybe send him a picture of the gun and your comments about waiting that long. He might enjoy it and maybe you could get his signature on a pic of the gun....? He might even remember something special about it.

Send me your two or three best pics and I'll put them up for you.

Hi Alan,

Congrats on finding your Holy Grail!

May you use it well for a long, long time.

Regards,
John

Thanks, Ned !

The observant will see the slight changes I made - swapping a short fitted trigger for the long so I could shoot it, and VZ grips, an improvement over the original Colt grips. Nothing that can't be changed back to original.

First three shots out of a clean barrel, at 25 yards, with AE hardball, went 1.5".

These old Hoags just look cleaner than the 6" longslides I see around, today.

Now they generally have a wrap-around, up-swept beavertail that makes a big gun even bigger, and forward serrations that seem to interrupt the classic lines of the longslide.

Couldn't agree more, Mr. North.

The whole gun just feels somehow slimmer and smaller than expected. Shot it again and passed it around my shooting group this past weekend.
Like dating the prettiest girl in town, and riding down Main Street with the top down in the car.

that pistol is just cool on many different levels. It's history in steel. I got a chance to speak with Mr. Hoag recently. He is very much a gentleman and the classic "old wise man". He gave me some advice that will probably take the rest of my life to really figure out. Lol.
