I just wanted to share pictures of my first custom 1911 built on a Colt '100 Years of Service' government model by John Harrison. My intended goal was a simple no frills 1911 pistol set up to my preference. The build sheet was some three pages long, but basically it is one of John's custom carry packages with the 'round butt' treatment, finished in matte IonBond DLC.

John was an absolute pleasure to work with on this project and the results exceeded my expectations.

Thank you John!

Fancy pictures courtesy of Mr. Harrison :D

So this is what you do late at night when the wife is out of town.

I got to shoot this gun Sunday. It is a tack driver, one ragged 5 shot groups at 7 yds consistently. When hand cycling, I could feel the smooth slide and frame reciprocating. The trigger broke crisply. I really love the Harrison's trigger, its beveled corners is comfortable to shoot, one can pull it a couple hundred rounds in a day (i.e. training session) without developing a blister or raw finger like most other so called custom triggers.

Congratulations my friend on a fine pistol. I'll trade you a Planet Ocean for it.

My favorite manufacturer and my favorite smith. Like the flush cut without crown. Another nice GA roots Colt.

IonBond DLC

You are going to love the matte IonBond DLC. Jason Burton built my gun with that finish in 2010. I was concerned at first, as I was taking the pistol to a class with LAV one month later and knew we would be shooting on a range that was covered in rocks. concerned about going prone with rifle and damaging the finish. Jason explained that the only thing had on IonBond is another IonBond finished surface. The pistol survived that class, another LAV class, frequent carry, various knocks bumps into stuff and still looks like it did the day I took delivery. One day I was even re-holstering and it kinda snagged against the chain on my wallet and I got a nice 3 inch scratch down the length of the slide round. Arghh! Wiped it down with an oily rag and it was gone.
