Some quick bench shots of a rail gun I built on a Springfield Armory base gun.

Image

It’s neat to see how the “rail gun” idea has evolved on the 1911 over the years... as the “rail” platform has gotten better the everyday usability of a railed 1911 has increased. Every time I build one of these guns I find something new that I like about them and I see a very similar gun in my future.

The gun started as your basic Springfield Armory railed 1911. The gun was treated to a weld-up frame and slide fit, Kart barrel, EGW barrel bushing, and best quality internals throughout the gun. Ball-cuts were machined to mate up with the front of the railed dust-cover and the slide top was flattened and serrated and fit with a tritium front sight mated to a PG rear sight. The rear of the slide was serrated to match the rear sight and the outstanding EGW grip safety swings on a “BM” styled thumb safety. The gun is hand-checkered at 30lpi front and rear and rounding out the gun is a Legacy mainspring housing and a set of VZ Grips excellent Diamondback stocks.

Enjoy the pictures!

Finish is a base of parkerizing with matte bluing over the top. This is the same finish that my current carry gun has and so far the finish is proving more durable than what would normally be assopciated with standard bluing.

Functional beauty. An operator's dream gun. I only own Colts but am starting to notice a few others like SA that look like good platforms for semi-customs. I have a Wilson CQB on the way, and I also have a beautifully worn a Ser 70 that has been upgraded, one part at a time, over the years. A Glock is a Glock is a Glock, but have you noticed, each Colt (or quality clone) has a personality of its own and just keeps getting better with a little honest wear and a few personalized parts along the way. But I've never been attached to a plastic gun.
