This sweet blaster began life as a Colt-produced LW CCO, Commander slide on an alloy Officer's ACP receiver. Not something that Colt produced often or in large quantities. (That's a hint, Colt) The owner is a gentleman of impeccable taste and wanted a nice fancy, goin' to town gun, maybe a little different than most and thought this base gun would do the job. To get the base gun up to speed, I did the normal custom touches listed below:

H-D Extreme Service rear sight -w- an SDM front, blended dovetail and white bead
Rear of the slide serrated 50 lpi to match the sight blade
Kart barrel & H-D bushing and logo spring plug with deep angle polished muzzle crown fitted with H-D Extreme Service slide stop
H-D firing pin stop and WC extractor with 18# Wolff recoil spring
Steel feed ramp insert installed
H-D short, smooth trigger fitted with H-D "CC" ignition system set to a crisp 4 lbs. pull
Front strap checkered 30 lpi with smooth bottom border
Flat aluminum MSH from VZ Grips checkered 30 lpi with top & bottom smooth borders
WC "Carry" beavertail hinged on an H-D Extreme Service TAC thumb safety
All corners and edges Carry Beveled and the bottom rear corner Round Butted
JR French did the handsome engraving on the slide which was polished to 1200 grit and blued
The finish is matte black Type III anodizing and the frame mounted small parts are in IonBOND DLC
The pins, screws, RH ends of the safety & slide stop, LH end of the mag catch and the plunger tube are Nitre blued to set off some accents
The slim ivory grips show really pretty bark grain and are mounted with slotted screws from Fusion

Now for some pix:

That is absolutely beautiful. Did you need to build up the rear of the frame to fit the beavertail so nicely? If so, how did you get it done?

Beautiful. I always like the way nitre bluing small parts add a classy touch to a blued pistol!

Chuck et al,

I'll have to agree, since I've had plenty of time to handle it (and it's sitting in my safe right now). John and J.R. worked their respective magic, and the end result was all anyone could hope for. And, as one would expect with a pistol from one of you talented smiths, it shoots really well too (far better than my old eyes can see). Not a safe queen, but not an every day carry either. A special occasion gun! I'm thinking John had a good time working on this gun (or maybe just getting it finished), as evidenced by his display of humor in his write up, with his "gentleman of impeccable taste" comment. I had some ideas, but again credit John and J.R. with the guidance and execution!
