Latest custom build from Timmons Precision. It is a Colt Gov't Lightweight. Black DLC finish. National Match ignition system. Harrison thumb safety. W/C BP extractor. Modified factory barrel and slide stop. 30LPI checkering on front strap. Round butt on new steel MSH checkered at 30LPI. Frame tangs welded up and recut for EGW Beavertail. Carry Bevel package. Reliability package. Customer supplied sights. TPW grips.
The entire exterior of the pistol was hand polished to a 600 grit polish. The rounds of the pistol were then bead blasted with a fine glass bead for a soft satin sheen. The flats were left at a 600 grit polish in preparation for the black DLC finish. The interior of the pistol was polished on all surfaces that move or mate with a moving part. Every edge of the pistol was addressed with some degree of chamfering and beveling to assure that it is snag free and that there are no sharp edges. Thanks for looking. JT

Nicely done and should make a heck of a carry pistol. I have thought several times about getting one of the lightweight Gov't models as a carry pistol.

Super nice JT!

So you welded or had welded, the frame tangs on an aluminum frame? That's something I never dared, although with my most recent welding source I believe it could be done. Can you elaborate, although I'll understand if you don't want to. Also, last I asked my DLC source declined to do aluminum, have they changed their policy, or did you get the frame anodized and it came out a perfect match, because it IS a perfect match!

Ned,
I had the welding done by a laser welder. It is very clean and controlled. The vendor for my DLC coatings does not mind aluminum at all. They do great work and have a relatively fast turnaround. So far, I have not been disappointed. It is not cheap, but I think it is about the best black finish you can safely put on a gun. JT

Beautiful piece of work JT. I'm new to the forum, so excuse me if I'm out of line, but I've been looking for a good DLC applicator and was wondering if yours is someone I could try. Obviously they do great work. If not, I understand. Thanks for sharing the pics!

No problem "Steve". My vendor is United Protective Technologies in NC. They do great work and have a good turnaround time. I've had them do quite a few guns in the last year and have no had any issues so far.

Talked to my laser welding guy and he says "yes" to aluminum.

Springer Precision always did a good job for me with DLC but what a long and shipping-intensive process.
