After a good long while of starts and stops, LTW is pleased to again partner with Kara's Hope to raffle a custom 1911 to raise funds that go to families having a child stricken with Alobar Holoprosencephaly (HPE). They do great things to help families in need and we at LTW are pleased to contribute. We ask that you visit their web site and buy tickets for the raffle. You can find them at http://www.gunsforacause.org/karashope/ltw11/

This year's pistol is a bit unique because this is the first (as best I can remember) where every member of the LTW BOD participated in the build. It was quite an exercise to organize the work to flow logically through the hands of all 10 of us and it all come out as a really sweet Government Model at the end. Also for this pistol, several folks were asked to do work segments that were not the kinds of jobs that they normally volunteered for on these LTW pistols. Everyone went along without a squeak and the results are superb. I'm really proud to call these folks my friends and to share a common goal with them.

Below is a list of who did what.

Colt Manufacturing was kind enough to supply a Colt 01991 Government Model pistol for our base gun.

Parts were provided by Brownells and Harrison Design.

John Ralston – 5Shot Leather

A holster and mag pouch will be built after the raffle is conducted and a winner is drawn, so we can build it either right handed or laft handed.

John Van Zyck – VZ Grips

*Supply exotic wood grips, Vertyx backpack and Zero Tolerance knife

Jason Burton – Heirloom Precision

* Do a weld & fit job on the slide to frame fit
* Lower and flute the ejection port
* Straighten exterior lines

Steve Bailey – Heirloom Precision

* Flat top slide and serrate 40 lpi

Tim Brian – CT Brian Custom

* Fit barrel, slide stop & bushing, ream chamber, adjust and polish feed ramps
* Machine deep dish muzzle crown with high polish
* Fit extractor and firing pin stop to slide. Tune extractor hook, check breech face width & polish, polish disco rail. Inspect ejector mounting and fit.
* Grind rear of slide, extractor, ejector and frame to alignment, sand and serrate 50 lpi.

Don Williams –Action Works

* Machine rear sight cut for Standard Bomar cut and fit both a KenSight BoMar clone adjustable and a HD-006 fixed rear sight.
* Machine front sight dovetail and fit SDM sight blank. Radius the dovetail ends to the slide, profile the blade, serrate it 50 lpi. Leave the sight .250” tall for zeroing.

Stan Chen – Stan Chen Custom

* Machine 60 degree bevels at slide’s bottom edge
* Machine ball cuts
* Machine French Borders at top of slide flats

Tony Barnes – Brownells, Inc.

* Machine frame and fit EGW Beavertail and EGW thumb safety, blend and finish all surfaces, edges & corners
* Fit the trigger and ignition parts, tune trigger pull & adjust for correct function of safety
* Fit extended mag catch & tune for smooth function

Ned Christiansen – Michiguns

* High grip and checker front strap 30 lpi
* Machine frame for Chen MSH, blend to frame flanks and checker 30 lpi
* Bevel the mag well opening

John Harrison – Harrison Design

* Carry Bevel
* Final Assembly, test firing, zero sights, tweaking/tuning
* Prep for bluing

I love this 1911!

Several things jump out at me that are more about the people that worked on it, than about the gun.

First-- having ramrodded a 1911 project or two myself, I can tell you that that although John Harrison's name has only three items under it, he put more into this than anyone else. Not just the herding of the other LTW cats (picture John with treats in one hand and a squirt bottle in the other), but, "he who gets the gun last" simply has the most work, even if everything has already theoretically been done by the other guys. John also was the liaison with Kara's Hope and indeed it was John who brought LTW and Kara's Hope together in the first place!

Second- I'll bet not everyone knew that you could get fine, exotic wood grips from VZ Grips. Check these:
https://vzgrips.com/gun-grips/wood

And, not at all lastly: Tony Barnes at Brownell's. Now, the company has been a huge supporter of LTW for a decade. Tony's work is independent of his work at Brownell's and as you can see he is quite capable as a 'smith. He's not "just some guy that works at Brownell's", although yes, he's a crucial cog in that machine. He knows his side of the firearms industry like few others, and is well-versed in every other aspect of it. I'll bet very few people in the industry have "the big picture' down as well as Tony.

It has once again been an honor to participate in the build of another charity gun with our merry little band of outlaws.

Kara's Hope is such a worthy cause. Please everyone - buy an extra ticket. Win or lose, you win.

I look forward to LTW #12.

Absolutely stunning, you guys are simply amazing.

I feel for those that only have 3 weeks to discover that LTW 11 is up and running, why such a short raffle entry period?

Loving the photo's, order is placed, and a thank you to all involved with LTW, for both the chance at winning something so beautiful as well as supporting these charities over the years.

David.

I know it's short, we need to get the word out, tell your friends.

Why so short I don't know.

Here's a closeup of the checkering's vertical, top terminus-- this interesting crossover occurs only under the trigger guard, unfortunately, due to the radius transition from vertical (frontstrap) to horizontal (trigger guard bottom).

Nedly, that terminus just kicks AZZ!

Once again your 'not of this world' touch leads me to believe you were once one of the original knights of the round table.

Oh, and make the pic a bit smaller so we don't have to use multiple screens to see the whole thing... :lol:

You saw the part where I said "close up", right? :shock:

I don't know why it's like that, was hoping "everybody else" would see it normal. Will attempt a change but until then I'm just gonna send a projector to all LTW members......

I was told once by that we do not buy tickets to win. It is to dream about what we would do if we did win. :shock: The cause is well worth the donation. Well, I will be joining the "dreamers." :roll:

Incredible gun, incredible craftsmanship, and an incredible group of smiths willing to collaborate for such a cause as this.

My tickets are bought and I do believe that I'm going to have to buy more as well. As Terry said, if the ticket purchase is about the "dream", then I guess I'm gonna dream big!

The fact that the drawing is only two weeks away-- Nov. 2, 2015-- means, I would say, that this raffle more than any before it offers the ticket buyer an unusually good chance of winning.

From the site:

"Tickets are available for sale online until November 1st, 2015 at 11pm Eastern - Drawing to be held on the 2nd of November, 2015. Contestants need not be present to win. Entries will be electronically logged and you will receive an e-mail confirmation of your “e-Ticket” number(s). The drawing will be conducted by an independent accounting firm. See Official Drawing Rules for details."

I want to make sure everyone realizes this comes with some leather from 5-Shot Leather.

Also, my friend Steve Camp at Safe Direction has contributed one of his unique pistol cases:

I'm not sure it was clearly spelled out, but there is a Vertyx back pack and a Zero Tolerance folding knife provided by John Van Zyck at VZ Grips, as well as the exotic hardwood grips on the pistol. I'll try to get a picture posted asap.

Guys, I've been away all day, but I just checked https://www.gunsforacause.org/karashope/ltw11/ and it works fine. I'll email those folks and ask them to look into it, or offer suggestions as to what you might do.

Plan A: cost of a ticket or two gets you this fine custom 1911.

Worst case scenario-- the ticket money you likely won't miss that much did some real good for some people who will never forget it.

Make it happen right now if you hain't already....... today is the last day for ticket sales.

https://www.gunsforacause.org/karashope/ltw11/

Special deal!! The winning ticket is at NO CHARGE.

What th'.....? No really, if the winner is an LTW member having joined LTW on or before today, Nov. 1 2015, I will send a twenty-dollar bill to cover the cost of your winning ticket, in the above mentioned case Safe Direction that goes with the package.

BEAT THAT! I know it's only $20 but crap, how else do you win a gun like this without even paying for a ticket!
