Here is a ragged old Seecamp conversion on a Series 70 Government I picked up awhile back. Found this little write up on them on the net.
Quote:
L.W.Seecamp Co., Inc which was founded as a family business by Louis W. Seecamp in 1973, began as a gunsmithing operation specializing in a double action conversion of the 1911 semi-auto pistol (Colt .45) designed by John M. Browning. The D-A .45s produced by this conversion process, which was the patented brainchild of Louis Seecamp(#3722358), resulted in the first commercially available double action .45s anywhere in the world. Approximately 2000 conversions were done from the early 70's to the early 80's.

A buddy of mine has a Seecamp conversion of a Combat Commander. It's cut down to approximately Officers size, and not only has the DA conversion, but Seecamp's adjustable rear sight/loaded chamber indicator, patented dual/telescoping recoil spring system, and a one-piece backstrap/beavertail that dispenses with the grip safety. It's a very cool little gun, and the DA pull isn't bad.

That's the first blue Seecamp I've ever seen. All the others were hard chrome. The work on yours seems a little more....crude(?) than I remember on others. Wonder if its an earlier gun? Too bad somebody beat it up so bad. Still a neat gun.

The very few I've seen, or seen pictures of, were chromed too.
That's a very interesting gun that way. I sure wouldn't turn one down!
Jeff Cooper's nightmares are filled with them I'd imagine, but they are interesting nonetheless.

This got me thinking of another 1911 conversion that's from roughly the same era. It wasn't DA, but this Seecamp still reminded me of it somehow. It worked by squeezing the backstrap in to cock the gun. I can picture it, but I'm not sure of the name. Was it the Caraville Ace?

I bought this from a guy along with a Hi Power. Apparently they were improperly stored. Both had the mottled finish but no rust or pitting. This is the first actual LW Seecamp (non ODI) I have owned. Not real impressive by todays standards and it has a god awful trigger pull. The work is primitive and overall it isnt real pretty but it is a LWS stamped conversion. And as usual the price was right. It makes a good addition to my old school collection.
