I have a 70 series Colt Combat Commander that I view as a prime foundation for a build project.

It has been shot little and carried a lot (by me - nearly 30 years ago) as I am the original owner. The e-Ni finish shows it's years in a holster and it and really needs (deserves) to be given a rebirth.

So if this is my one shot - - - -(pun intended) - - - to afford a total re-build of this type pistol into a "handsome" but most import -- a functional carry gun......

What are the top mods. that are requested from LTW guncrafters on projects like this????

I don't want to forget anything obvious when I start "shopping out" the project.

Thanks for your thoughts

I would suggest that you check out each gunsmiths web site. They each have a list of what they do along with the cost of the mods. Most have pictures showing exactly what it would look like when finished.

Choose what mods you like. Make the gun yours - not everyone else's. After about six months of checking different web sites, I selected a smith, then a few months to decide on what mods or package to select.

To answer your question specifically - each smith has packages that include the most common mods. Packages go from Mild to Wild.

I chose a pkg of mods, and have been on the list for over a year. I pull the paperwork out and go over it at a minimum twice a week. I have added and subtracted things from my initial thoughts (pkg) many a time.

After so many changes, examinations of my wants and desires, I have pretty much settled on the paperwork I'm sending with the gun. It is currently only 14 pages long with pics.

I ask the smith to look over my thoughts and make any suggestions or comments if he sees something that doesn't make sense.

They say this is addictive and THEY are right. I saved for one gun. Over the past year I have bought two more (a CCO and a LW Commander) that are project guns. Now all I have to do is re-finance my house.

Good luck.

Go to some smiths website like YostBonitz and the other guys who have packages you can order... You will see the most common mods in some of their more basic packages and you will see what changes when you go up packages. Pick and choose from there... Keep in mind, those are just some ideas they are giving you, you can pick and choose what you want...

I think the packages offered by various smiths more or less tell what their most requested mods are.

But my suggestion is: Get what YOU want.

The top four mods (sorry, I couldn't follow instructions in school, either  ) are function reliability work, sights, trigger pull work and handling enhancements. I guess that paints the picture with a pretty broad brush, but it gives you food for thought. It's also pretty much in order of importance. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the thoughts. I didn't realize that the majority of the "smiths" had bundled modifications into packages.

It looks like I need to spend some quality time surfing the individual www sites. After last nights snow storm that's a good way to spend my time.

My sugggestions always are:
Beavertail if wanted
Ignition parts
Good hammer
Good match bushing
Sights that you like and can see
Reliability and tuning work

Then any eye candy beyond that such as checkering, serrations, flat topping and so on,

Jess
