It seems people are really enjoying vintage guns these days. We enjoy them to...especially when we get to cut them up.

The material things I really screw myself into the ceiling over are vintage American muscle cars, hand made knives, and Colt pistols. Pretty simple.

The projects going through the shop right now have been a lot of fun. It seems people want a little style with their carry guns. Some customers are sending the good stuff like Commercial Colts. These guns can present some interesting issues, but the challenge is the fun part. The gun pictured below is probably not totally done but very close. The LTW smtihs will certainly have some very nice guns on hand for the Shot Show in February.

I am taking snaps most of the night so stay tuned for a Christiansen gun, and a simple but elegant Series 80 Colt built for working. However, it does not have a fiber optic sights.

Simply beautiful!!! That would go nice with my new Tacoma pickup. My brother wants to buy a '69 Yenko Camaro that is located in AZ just north of Phoenix, we may be dropping by depending on what the appraiser he hired says.

I love that classic look. Are the re-issue S70 Colts challenging aswell?

Hmm... that set-up looks awfully familiar. Now if I could only get you to realize that thumb safety is waaaaay oversized.

Seriously, absolutely gorgeous gun brother... you should be rightly proud of that build. You're making me think it’s about time that Commercial I’ve got stashed away gets cut on.

This gun is a result of a collaboration between Steve and myself. Steve did all the work, and my part was to get him to slow down, take his time and make something he'd be really proud of, and so would I. My part was the hardest, because Stevie hates to drag out projects to a rate that normal people build guns at

I like it when a plan comes together 8)

Steve,

Ain't much to say about that but good. I had a commercial once, but I can't seem to find it. Know of any hanging around?

Whoever gets that is going to be a happy fella.

That has to be one of the best, simplest guns I have seen. I love the look of a all business Colt. I got to say that the finish on that gun is perfect.

Keep 'em coming Steve! It's great to see what you guys have been up to lately as your camera has been kinda quiet. Where's the rubber grips and with the little light thingy? Very nice work.

Thanks

Very nice pistola, Steve!
For a totally non-gun related question: what's the hand-carved and tooled leather piece and do you know who did it ?? Very impressive.
I just started toying with carving myself and can guarantee you almost as many hours went into doing a piece that large as went into that gun. Not necessarily difficult to do, but very monotanous and time-consuming to say the least.

This gun took a little longer to build than I expected.

Mark,
The tooled leather is something Ted and I picked up one day just looking around. I am not sure of it's origin.

To answer and earlier question. The new S70 Colts in my limited experience to not cause the same problems the older guns can. However, I like the challenges of the older guns. You learn and suffer while making these look and function the way you want. The end result is a durable and aesthetically appealing pistol. That is the idea at least.

maybe you take a shot at your leather working skills and make me a holster and mag carrier with that beautifully carved leather.

Again, your work is top quality and I have a 1* elite "Colt-on" okay, Colton is working building for me. You are more than welcome, if Colton is good to go that is to jump in on it. Just make certain you post it once your done and tell us what you did.
God Bless,
CJJ

Steve built another beautiful one, what else can I really say.

You guys should have seen the smile on his face when he was polishing that slide with the old commercial roll marks.

Like Steve said, they can present a few more challenges than the new prod. 70 guns but the results are so very nice.

Congrats Steve.

Nice one, Steve. Elegant, especially on that background. Comments are always made about Ned's mind continually churning out ideas, but I bet yours doesn't rest much either. :D

Steve,
Congratulations on a very nice piece of work. Would you list the work performed and an approximate turnaround time for a similar gun at this point in time. Thanks.

That is a BEAUTIFUL pistol!!!! I love the old commercial rollmarks. Even on a gun with modern touches like this one, they just speak of history. I really wish I could find a good 60's GM to use as a base gun that wasn't going to cost more than three months worth of daycare for my girls. Maybe after I work up the cash to send the 70's LWC I have stashed away to Ted for a workover. Even if Colt is making a gun with tighter tolerances and better steel now, there is just something about those old guns that grabs me.

Since I’m in temporary possession of this piece I took the opportunity to wring it out a bit over the weekend. This gun can shoot very well. I ran 140 rounds through the gun, 100 WWB 230gr FMJ and 40 Speer Gold Dot 230gr JHP.

10rd @ 15yd WWB 230gr FMJ
Image

Image

5rd @ 15yd Speer Gold Dot 230gr JHP

As I’ve seen before the Speer Got Dots tended to print a bit high but still gave the best group of the night. I think the gun is capable of even more accuracy but I just wasn’t going to get it out of the piece during this session.

Nice gun Steve!!
