I missed the owner of these at the Shot Show last year but would have like to have met him. Anyway, he has been patient and Ted has been rather busy. I know how much time Ted spent on these and it obviously shows.

These are some of the first guns going out with the new Yost-Bonitz Professional Grade rear sights. Lew Bonitz has been machining these for the last few months and has got these absolutely right. I installed a set of these today on a slide and they came out great. The sights you see below have three dot tritium inserts installed.

One of these guns is a LW Commander and the other a steel framed version. Hand made walnut stocks, round butt rear of frame, hand checkered, flat topped and serrated slide, Kart barrels, with match fit bushings. Both operated by YoBo action components.

I am sure the team that gets these will be extremely happy. Congrats to ya.

Is the lightweight a Caspian slide on a Colt 'Enhanced' frame? Looks great. I never cared for the slide serrations or the flat top on the 'enhanced' Colts. That is a great looking pair of pistols!

Steve,
Great photos! Gawd, those are awesome sights that Lew has machined. I need some. Love that round butt treatment too!

"Pair of Commanders" and "Texas". Kind of goes together well in a sentence. Very nice ones, too!

By the way, I keep looking at those stocks. When Ted finsihed them they were like English furniture from a time long ago. I was just messin' with some light while I still had these. I guess this snap doesn't look too much different from the others but it was the last one.

Steve - they look awesome!!!!  Your work never fails to impress. Never fear, I'll find you at SHOT 2006 and force you to drink a beer.

Ted - they look great - I know they will function and shoot as good as they look. I challenge the non-YoBo folks to tell me the difference between the two (other than one is a light weight and the other is steel, and that one has a caspian slide and the other a colt slide).

I can honestly tell you that staying patient was difficult. My personality is more inclined to calling every day to see how my babies were doing. I forced myself not to do that.

I look forward to my first time on the range with both firearms. Sadly (at least for my wallet), I can report that given how well this build-out went, Ted and I are already talking about YO-BO building a full-house custom for me, as well as an aluminum commander-sized 38 Super. :D

JeffVN,

I believe the difference is the one with the Colt slide is a Commander frame and the one with the Caspian slide is a Officers frame, CCO.

Would I be correct, or am I seeing things?

Beautiful pistols.

Ted,

Very nice work. Does the YoBo rear sight fit the Novak cut? When will they be available?

Thanks, guys. Some of these projects are just plain fun.

Mike, the sights are available now, for Novak cut, Heinie cut, and our modified Heinie cut (with the rear extension cut off). The Kimber sights should be available later this week, with others in the pipeline, like Springfield XD (Rob's idea, of course  )

Zen_grasshopper - good eyes.

The Caspian slide is indeed sitting on an officer's frame.

My wife didn't want a Commander - it didn't fit in her purse too well. She was much happier with the idea of the Ted-built CCO. I was happy finding a firearm that she wanted and that she would actually carry. Last year's SHOT show sealed the deal - she saw the various guns at the LTW booth and made my day when she said she wanted a CCO / officer's model.

As usual, beautiful work Ted! I really like the look of that round butt conversion. Someday I'm going to have to have you build me a little something with that mod.

Ted,

Those are a very fine set of Commanders. This, however, will be my final post (until my next), as I am becoming jealous of those with fine new firearms and cannot bear the wait any longer for my own. I am condemning myself to GlockTalk until I have something new to shoot.

Seriously, though, I really like those. Kudos to all involved.

Do your new sights have a wider notch like your retro rear sight?

The new sights have a notch that's .140" wide, .125"deep. It's flared outward and downward at the front to eliminate the tunnel effect. Novak, Heinie, and modified Heinie (YoBo cut) are available now, Kimber should be ready this week. Lew's been putting in lots of time on his new CNC mill. The only problem is so many ideas for new stuff, so little time!

There's a new light rail in the works, as well as adapters for the Surefire X200. These should be ready in a couple of weeks.
