Thought I'd share a project I've been working on over the past few months. In the fall of this year, Phoenix will be opening a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame downtown. To commemorate it's grand opening, local artists were asked to submit drawings for their ideas for decorating 10 ft tall fiberglass Fender Stratocaster guitars. For this project, called Guitarmania, the top 100 were to be selected to paint the guitars with their design. My design was one of the ones chosen. The guitars will be displayed around Phoenix at different locations throughtout the fall. After the opening of the Hall of Fame, the guitars will be auctioned and the money raised will benefit Big Brothers, Big sisters of Arizona, so this was for a good cause as well as being fun. Here are pics of my guitar which I dropped off at BBBS warehouse this morning. This was my first ever attempt at hand-carving and tooling. The neck is covered in genuine Western Diamondback rattlesanke, with an actual rattle at the top (tough to see in the first pic). The sides and back are covered in deerskin. The feathers are red-tail hawk wing and tail.
Now that this project is over, maybe I can get some holsters done!
(Lou is right; I need to sleep more often).
