Hello
I have a model 36 I have been looking at that is for sale. What I am wondering is, how you could TELL it is a factory job, or may be done by and out side vendor ? Thanks to all that reply, Kurt Vogler.

I think the only way you can be absolutely certain is to send Roy Jinks a check and request a factory letter. Even then, it is possible that it was post-purchase engraving done in the custom shop and Roy won't know that.

I have a letter request in for my engraved gun. we'll see what it reveals.

Hello Rick
Thank's for the response. I would be interested to see if someone else has a way.I have NOT bought the revolver and would like to know if there is a way before purchasing it. I have heard that some casted a mark of sort's but could not find any. Best regards, Kurt Vogler

Hello Kurt,
I could be wrong, but being a flat latch 36(id'ing age) and with the style of engraving it looks factory to me. Either way I'd say depending on price its still a find.
Your friend,
Al

Hello Al
I am between a rock and a hard spot. You know me well enough that I SHOOT all my hand guns. This one appears to be unfired and that would just drop the value if fired. The asking price is 750.00 and it is a dealer. The ODD part is he has TWO of them, and the other is GOLD plated. That one is 850.00, and I was just trying to see if the gun may have been a factory job, and do not know if it would be a revolver to invest in. I Know NOTHING about engraved gun's so thought I would ask some one that may. Your Friend, Kurt.

$750?!? Go. NOW. Do not hesitate. That is a better-than-awesome price for an engraved gun of that quality, factory or not!

Kurt,
I agree with Wayne. Both of those prices are way below what I have seen on engraved guns. Even having one engraved now would be more than that and then the price of the gun would need to be figured in. A find in my book ole friend!

It's just my opinion, and I dont have any engraved pistols, but I agree with Al and Wayne...buy em...buy em both. I would have to guess the engraving done anywhere would be worth the price of both piece..if it's from the factory well your value is even greater.

Jim

offer $1450 for the pair. Kinda a CYA in case it isn't factory.

Hello
I just recieved word from a Mr. Deangelo a former S&W engraver employee, that the engraving on these two revolvers was indeed done by a Mr. Paul Picquette. I passsed on buying them, but if a member is intrested let me know, and I will forward the contact info. They appear unfired and I have no dog in this race. Regards, Kurt Vogler

I think that the phrase is "I have no horse in this fight."
Thanks for the education regarding the engraving, though.
