Now that Mark has shown me how to post photos, I can get a few more up now and again. This gun started life as a 6" nickel plated model 25-5 that was carried daily by a Calif LEO. He now wanted it a bit more amenable to concealed carry, so we did the following work: Cut the barrel to 3 1/2", crown and add a Power front sight. Polish and radius the trigger, chamfer the cylinder mouths, convert to 'N' frame round butt, and coat the whole gun with Birdsongs Black-T. Sorry about the quality of some of the photos.

Don,

I really like the way the Birdsong finished turned out on the revolver. I have a 681 with a cut down barrel From 4" to 3" and it has the Birdsong finish Hammer Trigger and cylinder done in black and the frame and barrel are done in the olive green birdsong. It is a great finish for a carry gun and really holds up nicely.

All I can say I you do some real quality work and who ever got this revolver has themselves a Master piece.

Gary

Now that takes me back to my days. I carried a S&W 58. Gotta love the big bores!

Well done Mr Williams!

I like that front sight. Does Power Custom make it? I don't see it on their website or in Brownells.

Drummer, It's not on Powers website, and think they've dropped it, but I bought a few awhile back. They made it in a ramp and patridge style, so you might call them to see about availability.

What load are you using? I too have a real love for the 4" 25-5 and have two set up for carry. Also, what size bullet are you finding gives you the best results?

That's an absolutely beautiful revolver. Any chance your friend will let you bring it to the SHOT show? :)

Thanks for all the nice comments.

Keith, I didn't shoot the gun with anything but some factory fodder to ensure it shot to POA. The owner carried this gun daily as his duty gun for many years, as he's a Calif LEO. Since he's so well acquainted with the gun, he probably has a good idea of what the gun likes. I have found however that many of the S&W's do have cylinder throats that sometimes don't lend themselves to best accuracy. Many are a bit large, and your only alternative at that point is to have a new cylinder fitted with proper throat sizes.

Smoothone, I don't think I'd be able to bring it along to SHOT, sorry.

Don,

Did the Back-T finish go on over the nickel or did the nickel have to be treated or removed?

Iowegan, Because Black-T is applied over phosphate and chromate precoats, the Nickel was stripped first. Regards,
