Semi-dumb question - be nice - or not. :) I want to give a custom 1911 Government Model to my brother who lives in California. The pistol is about 2.5-3 years old, has a Caspian slide and no trigger safety (meaning no Colt Model 80 or Kimber similar device). Can I transfer this firearm to my brother in California?

I suspect I know the answer to the question, but I'm looking for a definitive answer from someone who knows.

The answer is no, I just moved from Ca and let me tell you, the laws are messed up. The only guns that can be transfered to someone in Ca have to be approved by the BATF and have passed a drop test. Sorry, but you can gladly transfer it to me in Wy.

You can find just about anything you want to know about Kalifornia firearms law at this web site. And if you call the DOJ and talk to them, they are usually pretty helpful. They are just enforcing the BS laws, not writing them.

I can tell you that it's much better on THIS side of the Kalifornia border. After 18 years there, I was very happy to escape.

Here is an option that may be available to you.

Transfer the pistol to one of yor parents. Then they can transfer the pistol to your brother. Upon transfer, your brother would have to fill out a form Report of Law or Intra-Familial Handgun Transaction
