My TRS comes stock with an 18.5# variable recoil spring and a 21lb. mainspring. I think the 18.5# recoil spring is a little excessive and heavy. I only shoot 230grain ammo. FMJ or HP for defensive rounds. Those who have 5'' 1911's, what did you switch to, if indeed you switched at all? I tried a 17# conventional spring and it ran perfect. But I alson know that the factory way (John Moses Browning way) is a 16lb. recoil and a 23lb. mainspring. So my question to you fellow TRS owners and others out there, would you recommend I go with a 17lb recoil/21lb. mainspring setup, or a 16lb. recoil/23lb. mainspring setup. Thanks folks for the replies. This is a great website. :D

I would say if you have it running perfectly, then that is about right. I like 16.5 variable with a 23 lb. main. But I have 16's in some. If it's running just shoot it.

I don't own a TRS but I run 19lb mainspring's in all my 1911's and have never had a light hit on a primer. As for recoil springs I have run both a 16 and 17 pound spring and there is no noticeable difference between the two. YMMV.

Only thing is that the brass might have been flung a little too far. Between the range of 8-12feet. I guess it's better to get it out than keep the brass in, right.

I have Walter Wolff make a special spring kit for all the 1911 Online Class pistols and to date, they have all ran 100% so I think it works. I won't bore you with all the varibles in that kit, suffice it to say we use a 16 1/2 LB VP recoil spring coupled with a 19 LB mainspring. In Commander size 1911's, I use an 18 LB VP recoil spring and a 23 LB mainspring so I can slow down the slide a little. There are many other opinons on the correct weighs and I have no argument with what other people like in their guns.
