I have a stainless Springfield that I want have a Brown beavertail installed which would require welding. I want to refinish the gun afterwards.

I know that when you weld steel and then hard chrome it the heat effected area will show slight discoloration. Does anyone know if the heat effected area will show through the NP3?

Pete, The heat effect from welding can be minimized, if not made to completely disappear if, after the welding is done, you heat the affected area to red and allow it to slowly cool while playing the torch on the area that was welded. This seems to be an effective solution for me, when you have to have a visible area welded. It may take a couple of times doing this, but it generally solves the problem. Be aware though, that whoever does the welding needs to use a rod that is compatible color-wise with the parent metal. Best,
