For some time now I have been searching for a stainless Colt officers model to have lightly customized to ensure reliability for off duty carry.

Today I ran across a such a pistol, but with a twist. This officers ACP had "McCormick Officers" on the left side of the slide. The tag read that this pistol was produced in a run of 700 in 1996 and was from the Colt Custom shop. It was in mint condition.

I am curious if anyone can explain what sets this model apart from the average Officers model or what modifications were performed on this at the factory.

Price tag was $1000. Fair price?

I would also add that the pistols and leather that I view on this site are truly works of art and could not think of a better audience to pose my question to. Thanks to all.

I would check to see if the gun is indeed stainless steel; the McCormick Officer's model should be hard chromed from Colt. The pistols are basically standard Officer's ACP pistols with Chip McCormick slotted hammers, three-hole triggers, special roll marks, a hard chromed finish, and an inflated price tag. Everything else should be box-stock Colt. [eta] There may also be a McCormick thumb safety lock instead of the standard Colt "tear drop" safety lock. [/eta] The cardboard outer box should reference assembly in the Colt Custom Shop.

There were other pistols in the McCormick family, including a McCormick Commander. The prices asked reflect collector's value as opposed to value for a well fit and equipped pistol.

I once owned a McCormick Commander, and the edges were sharp enough to use as a razor. The grip safety fit was horrible, but the trigger broke very cleanly. It was a good shooter.

I had one of those years ago. I really liked it, but had to sell it when times got hard. I paid $600-700 new for it back then.

Damn nice trigger for a "production" gun.
