I was at a tactical pistol and carbine course today, and one of my fellow students had an accidental discharge. He went to draw his Wilson Combat 1911 from his Kydex Blackhawk leg holster. It snagged, he pushed back in to unsnag it, and he put 230 grains of ball ammo through the top of his right foot. Just be glad he hit foot and not leg, I guess.

Just a reminder. Keep it safe, guys. No such thing as an "undo" button on the range.

Amen, thanks for the reminder. It does not hurt to ponder these things at whatever level of proficency we may be....... familiarity does breed contempt! Hope the guy gets out of it with a minimum of pain/expense/scarring.

Had an ND at the Wannemacher gunshow this AM by a dealer. Two slightly injured. Scared alot of folks. +1 on the familiarity sometimes leads to carelessness. No excuses. Stay safe!

Thanks for the warning. I suppose it's probably human nature to relax a little when you haven't seen or heard of any problems in a while. We need to stay afraid of them.

I think he somehow worked his finger into the trigger guard while trying to unsnag, but I don't know for sure. I found the bullet today on the range. The bullet went through the top of his foot and exited the bottom - very minimal damage. One chipped bone. He got away lucky this time!

Bingo. It's easy to get a little too comfortable sometimes.

Semi hijack, but there is a related issue that has been recently brought to my attention.

A gentleman was shot though the foot at a local outdoor kart track near a rural part of Katy Texas recently. The shot was fired from far enough away that no one heard it. He was lucky too all bones were missed. Please be mindful when you are plinking that these rounds can go a very long way. I know the guys here are way past this sort of thing, but some of my friens need to be reminded from time to time.

Maybe so, but we can't think we are past it. That's when we get bit.
Thanks.
