Who makes the thickest barrel bushing? By thickest I mean the area a bushing wrench would contact? By looking at some pics the Kings bushing is pretty thick as well the EGW unit.

Kart's are thick similar to the King's bushing.

The thickest one that I'm aware of is an EGW.

Will, here's what I measured: Kart .118, Kings .1235, and EGW .130.

I can't believe this is my first question after lurking around and reading here for some time.

But why do you want to know? Worried about strength of bushing? How it looks?

Kind of like asking Dirty Harry if there's still a round in his 44Magnum. I just 'gotsta' know.

Hey no prob Rob! As for the question, nope, not worried about the strength of the bushing. Rather just to satisfy my curiousity why some barrel bushing flanges are thicker than others. Figured there must be some design reasoning behind it but that has been proven to be bogus.

I suppose that the original designers of the bushings with thicker flanges though it an easier way of adding additional bearing area to the ID of the bushing, probably as a way of prolonging life of the bushing. Don't know if it does in fact extend bushing life or not.

Thank you for the info. I am no pistolsmith, but I have replaced a couple of barrels and put in some aftermarket barrel bushings. Like DEA I had noticed the differences in thickness but never thought much about it.
Thank you Mr Williams for your input
Rob

I just popped an EGW thick bushing and matching solid plug on my Valtro, just because I liked the clean all flush look it lent to the business end....Colett bushings aside, has anyone ever broken a bushing ?

I've seen broken OEM bushings from using a recoil spring that was too long and was coil stacking.

Hey DEA, it's another EGW part- made to match up with the thick bushing. I believe there is also a version with an open end that has a matching length FLGR

Thanks asiparks! Shoulda looked harder on their site! Another question, did you do the chisel edge on the bushing or did you order it that way?

Ha ! I wish i had the skills....It came that way, they have 3 options, flat front, melted and this one which is a carry bevel. Thought it matched the existing bevelled edges on the pistol. I actually won them from EGW's ebay store, I believe they have another set up at the moment.......
