That's pretty neat. I didn't know who was working on those now that Scott, McDougall, & Associates is done.
They are one of the few .380s I like, and that's a nice one.

While I'm not a fan of the .380, I had one of those (gov't model) back in the mid '80s. I sure wish I still had it. It was a very neat little gun.

Novak's did a beautiful job on yours!

Very nice indeed!! Ironically, I have been looking for one of these or a Colt Pony .380 for the last couple of weeks for the "gun when I'm not carrying a gun" times. And by the way Barry, Cylinder and Slide are doing work on them now as well, and the prices look very reasonable! Check out Mr. Laughridge's site for some nice pics.--John

I had a few of these. They are the most shootable little guns ever made.

Looks great. Good job by Mr. Bonar, but then again he had a great teacher.

I'm also glad to see shops doing work on these again. I stumbled on a Pony Pocketlite that had been worked over by SM&A and I really like it. The only option the original owner didn't go for was the addition of the Novak sights, and I'd like to have that done to it. Glad to know there are people out there that might be able to help me out.

Great looking little pistol there.

Is that about the size of a PPK? What kind of accuracy are you getting? Never noticed these little guys before.

Hoser, there were a couple of different versions put out by Colt over the years, but generally speaking they are a little smaller and considerably lighter than the PPK/PPKS. I have carried both of those models of PPs over the years, and must say the Colts (especially in the Pocketlight variations of each model) are much more comfortable to carry for extended period. I just recently purchased a Pony Pocketlight and am getting ready to send it off for some custom work in the very near future. Good luck in locating one at a "reasonable" price, since these were some of the models Colt dropped years ago when they sold out on the non-military/law enforcement public  ....damned shame, I would gladly buy another DS-II, Magnum Carry, or one of these! The various models of Mustangs and Ponies are regularly on Gunbroker, but normally fetch $650+++

No there are quite a few of the bigger smiths out there that do work on them, probably the biggest name besides Novak's is Cylinder and Slide (some nice packages) and a few of the "off the beaten path" ones like Karl Sokol (Chestnut Mountain Gunsmith), Crews Custom Gunsmithing (Mira Loma, CA..also some attractive packages), and Dave Sams here in Virginia to name just a few. The hardest part will most likely finding a decent pistol at a FAIR PRICE.....the smittys aren't too hard to find! Best of luck--John

I hadn't seen one of these before either. Kinda reminds me of the Ballester Molina?

Anymore history here ?

Sorry to dig up this thread again, but there seemed to be a few people besides myself that were interested in these. While looking on Cylinder and Slides excellent website for some things for my Pathfinder, I rediscovered this article and thought I'd give you guys a link to it. Enjoy!!

Now that there is about as cool as a .380 can be. If that sounds disparaging of the caliber, it's not meant to be-- I'd carry that little gem in a heartbeat.

Now there's a good vote of confidence! Maybe I need to see if his Nedliness would like to customize my Pony .380 for the "ultimate-hip pocket pistol"?? :P

Having just bought a stainless Gov't .380, I think my next move will be to send it to Novak's for a some TLC. The base guns are rare and expensive- but we only live once!

I've looked at this thread a few times over the past few months. It makes me want to find a home for my Plus II so I can acquire the "full-sized" version and have it worked over. I've carried mine in my front pocket, my back pocket, my jacket pocket, my motorcycle tank bag, my backpack and even stuffed into my boot. Knowing it was just about 100% reliable would sure give a warm fuzzy feeling when I do carry it.

I've heard about these customized mini 1911s but have never seen them until now.
