October brings some really wild colors to Michigan as the leaves turn color and drop off. After the last one falls, we rake' em up and I'll bet we get enough to fill eight paisley-painted VW vans without having to really pack them in hard. While they may have been prolific 30 years ago, these vans are hard to find nowadays so we just burn the leaves.

But it is important not to let them lay too long. Once they get wet and settle, they're hard to rake and burn, but worse than this, they become a perfect nesting place for Peruvian land sharks, as you can see in the below photos.

Image
Four pieces from my friend in Peru, Alex Nossar, all trimmed in shark. The one with the Officer's ACP in it has seen daily use for two years or so, and I mean all day every day. The 5" job just came for me along with a customer order. The IWB single mag pouch is companion to the OACP rig (well, to both now) and has the same amount of use on it. The belt is part of my small stock of Nossar leather (and is just a tad small for me or it would not be "in stock").

Image

Image
This holster came with a twin, which along with a belt and mag pouch identical to the above, went to a guy who is a civilian contractor in the sand box. Josh, you probably know who I'm talking about, I understand he recently bought a rig from you, too, and he spoke very highly of it.

Hope I got all the noseprints wiped off for the photo. Love that new holster smell!

That's some good lookin' kit Ned!!! Not too shabby on the blasters either.

Me thinks it’s probably for the better that the VW vans and the "age of Aquarius" throwbacks that often accompany them aren’t as prolific today as they used to be.

I think we need a "drooling" smiley for Jason. With his leather fetish, I'm surprized that his keyboard worked long enough for him to type a response.

Nice stuff Ned! :)

You mean, "nice stuff Alex". I couldn't make a coaster out of leather, all I do is wear it-- and at that I get it on backwards half the time :?

Ned tell us about your personal officers model there. Especially those grips. I think you'll need to start another thread in custom pistols for that one!!! 8)

The grips are thin micarta, plain no checkering, from Navidrex. Decided I'd try something smoother. I did put on a pattern of marks to give a little bit of traction (very little), and on a whim I filled them with red paint. Kinda dumb but it does look different. In all honesty I'm not sure smooth is the way to go (but that's what I got them for, to find out). I think hanging on to them while wet or oily would be like hanging on to a big watermelon seed. When I get around to it I might just go back to checkered thin grips.

Just as soon as a few more leaves fall here in ol' Virginny, danged if I ain't gonna shuffle thru them and see if can't find me some of them shark things. Only thing I've ever found before were pine snakes. And they ain't big enough to make a holster much less a belt for my rotundness.

Ned- kidding aside, that's good looking stuff. Is it still on your website?

Alex's stuff is still on the site, Witherspoon, and I do have a handful of it in stock although at the moment it's mostly for Glocks. A few 1911 pieces are in there, though.

Y'know, if you can get me, say, half a square yard of tanned pine snake, I could maybe make you a deal on a nice horsehide IWB for a G23, and, if I can get the pinesnake hide through customs in Lima, we might just start a new trend in high-end gunleather!

Ned-

Email sent ref. holster for 5" 1911.

And just as soon as the leaves start to accumulate I'll take my two cats out scouting for pine snakes. We'll probably only need, say a hundred or so. I don't have much experience in tanning leather, think I could send 'em live to Lou?

I don't have anything here for a Commander, but depending on what you're looking for, Alex may have one. And if not he can knock it out pretty quick.... and the really good news is that our transport situation has improved dramatically with the purchase of a younger, stronger mule  . We now have a more regular means of getting holsters up here, so the waits are down. Could have you something in 4-6 weeks or so. If that sounds liveable, Email me with what you're looking for and I'll get you a price.

Wspoon, no Email received yet, but then the internet pipes out here are pretty small and they may even have frozen last night.

Sabertooth, I mean smilodon, the sights on both of these guns are made from scratch. Both guns are mid-80's work and as such don't represent my more current work..... would like to upgrade but um, I can't afford me......

BTW, that bit on my site about Nossar prices being tied to the Sol is not really the case, I should get that off of there. He basically works in dollars. There's even been talk from time to time about dollarizing the economy down there as they've done elsewhere.

Indeed my Email pipes were clogged for a few hours today. Thanks Mark D., for letting me know.

Good news! Our man in Peru has caught another shark:

This catch was especially difficult because as you can see the shark was packing a 10mm.

Great leather work Alex. Not that I am any sort of judge but like to think I know quality when I see it. 8) Beautiful hosters.

Love the Nossar leather. Ned sold an IWB magazine pouch to me that is, without a doubt, the absolute BEST of it's type that I have ever used or seen.

Looks like delivery time is quicker than in the past, too, so I may very well be placing an order...

Thankyou Steve, glad you like them, and, meabe... you can judge some more of them at the Shot, cuse i like to heard: the good, the bad, and the ugly ".The thrue".
So from them you can certainly improves.
actually it `s more rewarding when it cames from people who understands what this kind of work involves

I,m happy to heard you like it so much Harold , and thanks your appreciation. :D
Btw: Thats the only choise to wear here. were i live the weather is more like a long and humid summer but of course, IWB is not for everyone. for some people IWB carry involves to much compromise, i have a couple of friends that will not wear nothing IWB, no matter they have to wear a sport jacket or a vest when not mandatory and inevitably melt down ther self in the proscess. and... (funny packs dont work here. w`ll make you a funny target for a snach and run). no matter on how much "yellow" you live, always wìll be a small window.

One of my daughters, who lives in Montana, once complained that the only thing she really misses are the fall leaves. It was fall here and I got an idea. I packed a large box with leaves, packed tight, and sent them to her. She got a big kick out of it and spread them in front of her house. Sure fooled the neighbors too. Austin

Since Austin has brought this one back up, let me take this opportunity to, well, not announce, but to sorta give everyone a sneak-preview hint, that Alex and I are working on a holster design that should soon be available. It will be IWB, very stable, beautiful of course, and available for Gov't, Commander, and OACP length 1911's, and soon after, for 1911's with a Dawson rail, Glocks, and probably for the HiPower.

I'm no holster designer, nor am I a collector. I mean, I pretty much know what's out there and what has been, but I'm not ready to say this holster is a cutting-edge design that's never been seen before. I will say that it will for sure be superbly executed by those artful hands at the ends of Alex's arms! And, I think that between Alex and myself, we have some good ideas as to what works well in an IWB holster, not just for holding it here and now, but over the long haul in terms of daily use; security and stability, comfort, concealability and convenience. Well, we'll soon see. I'll get some pics up as soon as Alex is satisfied with the design (and finds a shark wot's the right shape and wants to be famous  ).
