I am in the process of getting all the parts I need for a build on a 2nd Gen Series 70 Colt. I recall a while back a smith told me not to use a certain brand of aftermarket parts because of "soft metal". With the name associated with the product, I didnt believe it at first.

My question is this, Are there brands to be avoided for things like sears, hammers and triggers? I dont want to start a flame war, this forum seems above that kind of thing. But if someone has information or could steer me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

If there is a warning to stay away from some products, perhaps it could be discreetly through a PM so as not to start a fire.

As a general rule, you get what you pay for. Cheaper parts can me lesser quality or lesser finish. For the trigger system, I really like C&S; everybody else comes in second.

If you're having a build done, ask the 'smith who is doing the work what parts he prefers. Unless you have some screaming aesthetic objection, go with what he is familiar with.

I have always had good results with EGW, Ed Brown and C&S ignition parts. Ted has a brand of ignition parts that I haven't used yet, but I doubt he would allow his name to be associated with them if they weren't top notch. No point in spending money on a trigger job if you aren't going to use high quality parts.

I've used Ted's ignition parts- they are top-notch.
