I have two Custom Builds with another one in the making from C.T. Brian.
My Questions are these 1. With a custom barrel is there a break-in regiment for new barrels. 2. Copper Fouling being associated more with rifle ammo velocities and rifles, Do I need to be concerned with Cooper Fouling in my handgun barrel? I understand that cooper fouling is only a problem with high speed bullets at about 2000 fps and higher muzzle velocities. Any Information would be Greatly Appreciated :D

I don't think it's an issue with these guns. I have tried using a rifle break-in scheme on 1911 barrels and there really was no benefit, I felt. I did not get any more "blue" on the patch in the first rounds than in subsequent rounds.

I'll go so far as to say that the very first round out of a new barrel of a 1911 goes into the same group as the 100th and the 500th.

I am curious about the "break-in" period as well....

I have read so many different variations, clean, dont clean, shoot 400, shoot 500 etc etc.

What is the professional/proper way to do the break-in?

For an interesting take on cleaning, etc. of barrels, go to Schuemann barrels website.

Apparently, he thinks you really don't need to clean them at all !

Does he clean the chamber? or is that not required?

I think he does, and am not sure if the " no cleaning" rule applies to lead bullets, or jacketed rounds only.

The lower velocity jacketed rounds in a pistol (probably) don't leave copper in the bore like rifle rounds.
