This may be a less than intelligent question but...

Anybody here carrying/shooting a Yost Signature Grade regularly? I have never been one to buy a gun just to look at it instead of shoot it but at the same time, these guns are clearly investment/heirloom quality (not to mention pretty darn expensive).

I certainly don't want to offend the builder, but any reason not to put one of these to use regularly?

I have one signature grade Yost that I have not carried but I have shot a bit. Yes, they are expensive, but I am sure that Ted and his guys would not want them just sitting in a safe. They are built to take the abuses of carry and shooting

Those guns should be carried and shot. Refinish when the finish wears off, and repeat.

I don't have a Yost Sig Grade, but I do regularly carry my YB *1 Colt Commander and it is holding up quite nicely and shoots even better.

I can understand why a person wouldn't necessarily want to carry an expensive and beautiful custom 1911, then again I'm the opposite and if I can't shoot/carry it, then I can't justify the price. I don't have that much disposable income and if I'm buying as an investment piece then I think I can do better on a good Mutual fund. :)

I have one of the Sig Grade LW CCO's and I carry it on a regular basis...

These are not meant to be safe queens.

Looks great, runs like a champ and when I told Ted I was going to carry it he said good! Thats what it is meant for.

Exactly what I was hoping to hear. Just need to find some suitable leather at this point and it'll be on my hip. I appreciate the feedback.

Shhh don't tell the Gods but sometimes I even carry it in kydex....
I just love the Threat Solutions UCR holster.

Sure it may be a little tougher on the finish but its the function
not the looks that matter to me with a carry piece.

I do need to get off my butt already and order some nice
leather for Commander 1911's

Just sooo hard to order it knowing I will have to wait forever haha.
I can do it with a gun but not a holster for some reason.

I think if you read what Ted says here on the forums that these works of art are made to be used and carried. To each his own for certain and if I paid $8000 for a matched pair I may hesitate to use one for daily carry but looking at Ted's feeling of how to build a gun they are first and foremost made to be shot, and shot a lot. They are made to function flawlessly and the fact that they make them so beautiful is a benefit. Ted and crew make "form over function" into "form and function."

Carry that bad boy!

My carry is not quite a signature Ted, but its pretty close. I carried it all the time (unlti my move to Vegas and now need to get a Nevada carry license) - although it was pampered in an Alesi holster.

Still waiting on a custom holster to be delivered......

I would think one on each hip would be the solution for that particular little problem....

If I had a Yost sig grade it would be on my hip all the time, in a quality holster of course. It would look even nicer with some holster wear to give it that broken in look rather than the safe queen look. Pull her out of that safe and let her breath some fresh air. More importantly walk around town knowing that in your possession is one of the finest carry guns available anywhere at any price.

I'm lucky enough to have 2 Yost Sig Grade Commanders. I carriedmy 10mm for a year and now rotate it with my new LW Commander. Do not EVER refer to Ted's guns as safe queens. He told me once I do NOT build safe queenss. My guns are meant to be used".

Not a Sig Grade, but I carry my SRT HiPower every day. It's a Signature Grade to me, as it's as close as I'll get.

It has some holster wear, which I don't mind (in fact, I kinda like it). But I do hate rust. I carry it in an IWB holster without a sweat shield and no shirt between the gun and my skin. With this past summer being extra hot (and sweaty) I couldn't slack off on cleaning and oiling or I started getting signs of rust on the worn spots.

I love the polished blue it has, but bluing never holds up to the abuse I'm giving it. So, rather than not carry it, I'm going to try more of a gee-whiz finish. I just got through boxing it up to send to Drake's Gun Works for a Melonite QPQ treatment.
And hopefully, I can continue carrying it all the time.

Barry,

I've got two guns with Melonite, a Kimber which I had done through EGW and a Colt which Bob Rodgers sent to Coal Creek. The Kimber has a satin black finish and the Colt has a flat black finish. Even though I think both guns had the same finish, the surface prep done by EGW and Coal Creek was a little different. I think the Kimber's finish looks a little nicer for my tastes, even though the Colt looks good too. There are a few other things too but PM me if you want to know more.

I would say it all depends on the kind of person you are, the purpose of your purchase and your financial position. From what you wrote I'd say your looking for an excellent carry gun and price is not much of an issue, if that's the case this gun is for you. It will serve you flawlessly for a great many years and then (as another member already mentioned) you can always retire it to a safe after a fresh new refinish from Heirloom Precision ;)

I'm obviously not Ted but I can tell you that not much makes him happier than to see his guns getting used as they were intended.
