This ones for you Stan... well not literally for you but more like a nod in your direction and any other the medium-bore lovin’ brethren I may have forgot.

Image

While I’m a died in the wool .45 ACP kind of guy I had the pleasure to do a Best Grade conversion on a classic example of Colt’s Government Model, this one chambered in choice caliber of our neighbors to the south. After the owner of this gun gave me the basic parameters for the build I was essentially given carte blanche on the rest of the conversion... something I always appreciate from the customer but also a challenge at times, especially given this particular gentleman‘s discerning eye and already world class collection.

I’m constantly reminded that there is nothing ever as easy as it seems and this gun was ready for me with a few curve balls here and there. Through it all the conversion was made complete with a Schuemann barrel, hand-cut 30lpi checkering front and rear, hand-beveled mag-well, Wilson beavertail, Ed Brown thumb safety, Nowlin mag-catch, serrated rear of the slide, flattened and serrated slide top, and all the standard best grade internals. Cosmetics being what they are this gun got all frame and slide lines detailed and straightened, a bordered slide, polished frame and slide flats, and of course nitre blue pins and screws. Rounding out the package are the phenomenal English Walnut stocks crafted by my partner in crime Ted... ‘cause like the guy said ‘anything else would be uncivilized’.

Enjoy the pics... :D

I like the knife.

Just kiddin' JB. Even though that is a rare, one of a kind Alessi knife, the gun's pretty darn nice too  Someday you should start a thread about the sweat you put into the details, and the abuse you have to endure at the hands of your co-workers ( I included Steve in that co-workers thing....you do remember Steve, don't you? :P )

I'm partial to supers and that has to be the straightest one I've seen to date. I can't even fathom the work involved to get it to that level of perfection.

Very nice Jason!

That makes my heart race! It is interesting to see the little details that set this apart from other makers guns, the style that is unique to each maker.
The "American" border for example. It appears that you guys set up to machine these a little different from many that I've seen. The look is subtle, but distinctively different. The grips and the grip frame are perfectly matched along the edges. The ejection port is not overly flared, just the right amount. The beautiful "Chen" crown. The subtle easing of the edges on the rear sight. Ted's round butt mod is the best I've ever seen. It just screams elegance. I notice that you guys seem to prefer the Wilson B'tail. Any particular reason for that? IMO, the lines flow just a little better than the Brown style B'tail. What level of polish is that on the flats?

Thanks for your thoughts gents... they are always appreciated. :)

The knife... 'ol Theo wasn't fibbing, it was crafted by our own Uncle Lou Alessi. I figured it would show well with the gun and the holster set... along with phenomenal holsters Lou makes an outstanding knife and of course the sheath to go with it.

Jason, Sir:

You continue to amaze us. As I quipped in another thread, are you sure your middle initial isn't an "M"? 8)

Classic Burton precision ... ultra-straight lines, flat-flats and flawless geometry. Phenomenal work, man.

OK, so where do I pick up that baby, that is freakin' awesome!

I'm not sure everyone really understands the amount of painstaking work it takes to get some of the old Colts to look that straight, clean and finished. You have a GREAT eye. Great job buddy! :D

You guys need to cut this out right now....so many beautiful guns, so little budget.

That muzzle crown is amazing. Anyone that gets that gun pulled on them can take a good look in the mirror on that crown and think long and hard about the direction (and potentially length) of their life!
