I have long been a fan of the Colt officers model 45 acp.I would love to see some customs from our master gunsmiths here on ltws and any other member who can post some pictures. It seems like this one has not gotten much press here! I have 3 of them and they need customizeing......... 8)

I like the OACP and it can be reliable. Sorry to say though, that as it happens I have not customized one in quite a while. I have done several Defenders in the last four years but not one OACP.

Mr. Rebello, I agree with Ned on their reliability. I've seldom found a problem with making them work. I did manage to find some pics of one I did several years ago.

Don, that's a beautiful pistol. Do you by chance recall what finish you used there?

Arthur, I was afraid somebody would ask that! It's 1985 work and it ain't pretty-- but I'll try and come up with something. Until then, there's this:

which was snatched from this thread:

Finish is just glass beaded stainless. Chuck Rogers did the scallops.

OK.... here's another pic, showing the whole thing. As I said, it's kinda like not the most presentable 1911 there is, it's not a good representation of what I'm doing these days, and it's pretty well worn..... so I cheated a little bit and put some distraction in the pic :o

Image

Everything is original Colt parts except the grips, grip safety and sights. Bought it in 85 and did everything at that time except the grip safety which I think was 89 or so.

You think the Ducati is a distraction?... Are you kidding me! Nothing distracts a person more than MORE of Ned's work!

Let's not forget the Commander Ned tried to hide from us!...

Ok, ok!... These aren't Officer models!... Ok, back to the Officer models. :D A little more therapy and I'm going to be J U S T fine!

Personally, I like Ned's personal OACP the best, I've been dying for a pic. of the whole gun for yrs. now. I definately has that, "Been there, done that!" look to it. So, Ned is this what your production sights will be like????

Exactly (almost). Nice and snag-free in the back but still a good shadowed sight picture because there is a vertical surface where the notch is (not visible in the above). The front surface is not vertical but at 25 degrees it's still "right" enough to hook on something-- and the new ones will come serrated on the front surface.

I think you might find an Officers style LW in this thread if you look hard enough.

Now that's what I call a transformation! I've worked with Marianne on a few things but never met her. Any idea if she's going to the SHOT Show?

Hi Guys! How I wish I was at the Shot Show with all the cool people. Gotta make it happen one of these years...then I'll be hooked for sure! I hope you all had a great time while I suffer here getting my tax stuff together...yikes!

I love your carry Officers pics Ned. I'll have to pull out and snap some shots of some of my Dad's ole 80's style 1911's and you won't feel bad for sharing. Some of his may even have still have mullets!!

Thanks for posting those pictures of your Officers JM! Still some of my favorite jobs to date. The next two shouldn't be too long now.

As always...thanks for the great support!

Marianne

Hi Marianne,
I didn't post those pictures. Someone beat me to it. It looks like those came came off the http://www.migunslingers.com site.
That Colt Officers is one of my favorites! (So is the Defender!)
Looking forward to the "next two". :D
I would love to see some pictures of you Fathers work, and I'm sure everyone else here would also.
Thanks for all you do, be safe.

I had some initial work done on my Officers model but I turned it over to Marianne and she made it my favorite carry gun. She hand cut the front and rear of the grip and gave me the best trigger job I have experienced on an 80s series gun with a functioning firing pin safety.

She also came in on budget and delivered the pistol when she promised

Mark

It is a high gloss beauty... I tried to up load an image and I guess the administrator has my ability to do attachments turned off. Sorry folks.

Artie....I have a beautiful OACP that as best we can trace was done by Wilson many years ago, and their shop agreed that it looks like their work but it was built before they computerized their records and they couldn't find the serial # for me. That's a darn shame too, since she is so nice, I would love to know who did the work!! I am the third owner (all three have been members of this site according to the gentleman who sold it to me, maybe the original owner will recognize her and let me know??). Unfortunately I am going out of town for the weekend, and then to UVA on Monday for some medical follow-ups. I promise I will get you some pics up Mon. night or Tues sometime! Best regards sir!--John

The stainless OACP is my current daily driver. The fake ivory grips on the blue 1991A1 OACP were quickly removed and discarded. That pistol is currently at Condition One with Dave Erickson for a makeover. Hoping to see it again in early November or so....promise to post pics upon its return.

Since then I've probably put another 150 rounds through it, another recoil spring, a new magazine as the 1985 Colt mag finally cracked a feed lip, and, oh yeah-- I've harvested 3 1/2 bushels of lint from it..... gonna make a sofa some day.....

Heh..... all the beginners think it's a "press check".... dang novices! If you don't have to remove some lint with a hoe just to SEE if there's one in the chamber, you ain't carrying the gun enough!

Ned my friend-

I seem to collect less lint in my airweight S&Ws than in my 1911s. My 5" has had more than a little crud removed from some very strange places, but I gotta say..YOU WIN! That is an amazing amount of "stuff" in your OACP, still one of my favorite carry guns. I know it is older work and not what you would turn out today, but it is a great gun. I keep looking for a Lightweight OACP to build up..... you'll know when I find it :D

Best
Mark

BTW..checkering project is done!..thanks for the help!!!
