Here are some pics of a Series '70 that I recently completed for Larry Vickers. It was built on a large rollmark Series '70 slide and later vintage Colt frame. Larry already had Pete Single checker the front strap, so I checkered a matching main spring housing. It features a flattened, serrated and bordered slide top, Heinie Slant Pro sights and a Colt National Match barrel and bushing that Larry supplied. I machined french borders, ball cuts and a lower slide bevel, lowered and fluted the ejection port and serrated the rear of the slide. The frame features a CMC beavetail, King's thumb safety, one of Larry's triggers and Yo-Bo ignition set. The mag well got a standard bevel, the butt rounded and it wears a set of Hogue cocobolo grips held with indexed Kings narrow slot screws. The work was finished up with a carry bevel job and blued with polished flats and matte rounds. Enjoy the pics!

A gun builder (whose work is highly sought after) asks another pistolsmith to build him a gun... Highest form of endorsement, in my opinion.
I'll see Larry tomorrow and I'll compliment him on this pistol.

John; that's a beautiful S70, my friend ... very tastefully executed.

Just curious ... did you have to weld-up and refit the Colt barrel? Did you have the opportunity to field test the gun? If so, how does the Colt barrel (accuracy) compare to your typical Kart installation?

John is referring to Colt National Match barrels that were made for the military National Match guns and were made to the NM oversize print. There were a few vendors over the last 40 years for these barrels, the most prominent being Colt, Kart, S&W, and IMI. They are of stellar quality.

Beautiful John!

How does the width of the King's thumb safety compare to the Brown variants?

The barrel was an oversize match unit is all normal respects, except it had two fitting pads sliver soldered in the rear upper locking groove at about 10:00 & 2:00. That was already done when the barrel came to me. Sorta like the lumps on a Kart EZ fit barrel, except the lower lugs still had to be fitted. It shot very well, comparable to a Kart.

It's sort of medium in width, not as narrow as a Brown tactical.

Now Larry can carry a proper pistol at his training classes...instead of that G19

Nah this will probably be his concealed carry gun

Well he still teaches with the G19, as evidence by pictures of LAV from last weekend's class in Brady, TX.

With a gun as nice as this Colt, he probably just keep it in the safe and only bring it out to show it off to his buddies like Ken Hackathorn and Richard Heinie, telling them: "See, I got one too".

Nicely done John.
