Hi, I'd like to apologize in advance if you feel this should not have been posted here.

I've had this for a few years. I saw this gun sitting on small dealer's shelf and liked it immediately. Then he told me that this started out as a SA G.I and was then customized by the late Nowlin SR, and was then offered as a price, and the owner kept it in the safe. I've put quite a few rounds through her trying to rebute the dealer's claim that he had never had it failed, and I can honestly say that its the same for me. I tried all I knew how, and the only problem it started to get is that the pin that holds the mainspring housing slides about halfway out, then I'd push it back in and its ready. Has a very tight grouping too.

My question is though, aside from the grips and the barrell, there's not any other markings that clues as to weather it was really the late Nowlin Sr. that worked on it. The gun is really tight, no loose feeling, and no shaking, but its really smooth. The closest to the feel would be a Wilson. The trigger pull is about 3-3.5 lbs, can't be any more. After I shoot this and switch to my kimber, the eclipse feels like a double action.

Anyway, if anybody has any opinion I'd like to hear from them. Also, I think its due for tidying up, so any suggestions on a modification and by who would be really appreciated.

That is a very nice pistol you have. I don't think I would change anything other than the sights and some new springs. I change the guide spring after every few thousand rounds in my guns. It sounds like the mainspring housing pin is broken so you may want to look at that and maybe add that on the list.

Not sure how you would verify Mr. Nowlin's work on it-- unless you could get Nowlin's to looks it up for you in their books-- which I imagine would be quite a task.

Very nice looking gun. Send it to one of the smith's here on LTW if you need some work done to it. Looks clean to me though. What exactly were you thinking of doing to it? You can change springs yourself. BTW, due to the slanted cocking serrations on the slide, I would guess that gun started life as a SA Mil Spec, not a GI. Once again, nice looking gun.

Thanks for the input, and deephelmet is right, it was a mil-spec. I had a little lapse, and of also, I've always thought it should be one gun called a G.I mil spec.

I actually did contact Nowlin Arms to check if they'd have any records of the serial number on file, but I guess computer filiing wasn't as widely used back when this was done. They weren't very inclined to help, but did want me to know that they'd be happy to do any other work on it that I may want.

Its getting faded and scratched, and the sight, just as gj47 suggested needs an upgrade. Mainly serrations and and a new finish would be what I'd need.
