I just got off the phone with Lou who is still in the hospital and will probably remain there for another week. He has a serious staph infection (not mrsa) as a result of his surgery for lung cancer. This has been a bad year for Lou starting with the diagnosis of lung cancer in February followed by a few surgeries and now the infection. He asked me to tell everyone Thanks from the bottom of his heart for all the get well's and inquiries about his health and to apologize to those waiting for a holster. He will probably be away from the shop for an unknown time but Mary Lou and his daughter are there trying to catch up with cutting out leather and sewing to await Lou's final process and forming. He is in great spirits and we spoke for a good half hour and believe me he is tired of hospitals and doctors and cannot wait to get back to work. Please keep up the prayers and well wishes as he really appreciates them. He doesn't have access to a computer and I'll try to keep everyone updated on his progress as I speak with him. Thanks again, Lou is a good friend of my wife and I and as anyone who has ever dealt with him knows a true gentleman!
Mike

I emailed with Lou for a while when he got out of the hospital and then his correspondence stopped so I was afraid he may have had some sort of set back. Prayers to Lou for a speedy recovery! Please pass on our best wishes to him and his family.

I just got off the phone with Lou a few minutes ago, and he is still doing fine and in GREAT spirits (laying in the bed and watching "Hawii Five-o" reruns..happy as a clam). LOL, it seems he has discovered a network that shows all the old cop shows and he already has the afternoon lineup memorized.
I told Lou about the "Witherspoon" auction for Chip Brezee's son Chip, and he was very pleased that the membership here once again pulled through. Lou was a part of the original concept for this package and helped keep me informed as to what the "board" was doing with it (sorry for "ratting" you out Uncle Lou) and he was supposed to do the leather for the package, but unfortunately that was about the time that he bacame ill. John Ralston appears to have stepped up to the plate with magnificient result, and John is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with in the leathergod arena. Lou also sounded very proud of what I told him about the finished leathergear....and was VERY complimentary of John Ralston!
Of course none of this comes as any surprise to those of us who know Lou Alessi...another true gentleman that is the norm on this forum!!-John

I sincerely wish Lou a rapid and long lasting remission, as well as a return to pursuits more satisfying than the dated neverending rerunning cop dramas that his addiction to so obviously requires intervention for.

Get well soon Sir. A hospital is no place to hang around in.

I just wanted to say that although my stuff was part of the package, it was actually Ted, Jason and Steve that donated the gear. I was not aware it was even part of the auction until the pictures went up.

I am very happy that it was part of such a great cause however!!!

Thanks for the nice compliments.

AND....as for Lou....Get well quick!

Hey everyone. Good news/bad news info on Lou. I just heard from him and he's back in the hospital due to a staff infection (which is pretty common coming out of a hospital).

He sends his thanks for the best wishes and prayers and wanted all of you to know he's doing fine! :D

Yeah, I know. But Lou emailed me today from the hospital and told me to pass on the thanks and the fact he's doing fine and getting better. Thought I'd pass it on since it's a message from him today. Just trying to keep the thread current as possible. :D

LOL :D OK...I wasn't trying to "Torch" you or disrespect, just having a little fun with ya'. since it sounded to me like you were kind of coming in on the tail end of the conversation! Lou told me the other day that he had gotten a lot of calls and e-mails from the members of this forum and he appreciated them all. Fantastic fellow that Alessi...!!--John

Lou called me earlier today and he's still hospitalized and expects to be there at least another week for the infection. Good news is that CT/MRI scans show he is completely cancer free but you never know! . He's bored to death but in his usual jovial mood and Thanks everyone for their prayers and well wishes.

That is the best news I have heard in a while. Glad to see Uncle Lou is on the mend. I just saw the thread and was unaware.

As everyone knows, he is just an all around stand-up guy. I wish him a speedy recovery and all the best to him and his family.

Just got off the phone with Uncle Lou. He's still in the hospital (going on a month) and hopefully next week will be released. He's feeling great and is in the usual Alessi spirit. He said to say "Hi" to everyone an to thank you for the thoughts and prayers!

Just talked to Uncle Lou a few minutes ago as he was getting cleaned up and tucked into bed by what sounds like a whole platoon of nurses (now we know why he's been hiding in the hospital for a month)!! As usual he was in great spirits (I think it would be impossible to call Lou when you were in a bad mood, and still be mad when you hung up with him).
he is doing very well and will be going home in the morning (friday). He swore to me that he was going to behave this weekend and rest, and not go to the shop until Monday morning. Best wishes to you my friend, and hope your recovery is fast and problem free!! (Let me know if the dog remembered you or not... )--John

Great news...I was beginning to think those nurses just loved the smell of leather and wouldn't let Lou out.

I do not know him, and do not want to insult him in anyway by asking if he is in need, but a month in the hospital has to ring up some mighty big bills, he was kind to me on the phone once, and wonder if there is need for some sort of a helping hand.......

Mike

I talked to Lou again this evening and he is at home and doing fine! The docs don't want him back in the shop for another weeks or two. His computer is still toast, so he said to tell everyone hello, and thank them for their thoughts and prayers.--John

Luigi called me this weekend and he's doing fine however he had an MRI last week and docs found a spot they want to biopsy which will be done tomorrow. His computer has crashed at home and his PC at the shop is networked to it so he has no way to send/receive e-mail. When it crashed he lost his entire address book plus other data but a tech told him it can be recovered and that should happen this week. He was supposed to go back to work yesterday for a few hours per day as he's still feeling pretty tired. I told him that's nothing unusual as he's always been an old tired ass! When he gets his PC up and running he'll be posting again. He hasn't even been able to access any of the forums so he hasn't forgetten anybody he just doesn't have the capability for now. As always he send his Thanks for all the prayers and kind words!
Mike
