Okay, so it ain't a "custom pistol" but it is cool and there's not an index for cool factory pistols. 8) I hope that Jason won't kick me out of the LTW family.

I just received the new XDM in 9mm for T&E. The .40 has been out for some time but since I'm not a .40 fan, I waited for the 9mm. The pistol shoots very very well and handles Federal's 124 gr. +P+ loads like candy. The mag holds 19 rounds so there goes a box of ammo when you load it up. The reset is much shorter than the old XD, the backstraps change out, the sights are improved, and you don't have to pull the trigger to field strip it.

All in all, it is a great running gun and it comes in a neat hard case.

The XDM 9 fit in the same BlackHawk SERPA as a Glock 17 with just a little wiggle.

These two are not photo shopped. As a matter of fact, I shot both the pistol and the camera at the same time which explains the weak looking left hand grip. My range partner was looking through the sights to make sure the rounds didn't go somewhere bad!

I have one on order....hopefully it will arrive soon. I don't have a wonder nine yet, so this will be my first....but with ammo prices the way they are it should get a lot of range time.

Considering the weight and width of the original XD, are these the same or has the weight changed. I sold mine as it was just too heavy and bulky for a concealment gun. I'd buy another if they have shaved off some of the weight/width. I really like the looks of the new one! I also found that the Armory kote finish was nowhere near what they claimed it to be as mine went back twice under warranty for complete refinishing.

From what I have been told, the first XD slides were had a parkerized finish that did not hold up well. All of the new ones are now finished in Melonite. With regard to size and weight, I'll have photos posted later in the week comparing the 9mm XDM and 9mm XD.

Only became aware of this line of the XD family recently and have been keeping my eyes out for a 9mm version. 19 rounds (is that 18+1 or 19+1?) in relatively lightweight package definitely sounds like a good thing to me. Appears the modular grip phenomenon is here to stay in the polymer guns and that's also a good thing in my opinion. Looking forward to hearing more about your experiences with the gun; just may have to add one to my post-deployment list. Fantastic pics by the way!

19 + 1 for capacity. There goes an entire box of Saber in one loading

off topic thread drift,

IF you are buying your good ammo in 20 round boxes, find a different supplier, ALL of the good ammo is packaged in 50 round boxes just as well, and usually sold at the same price as the little rip off boxes.

Try streichers, Cabela's, ammo man, and others, Buying in 20 round boxes only drains your bank book

I plan on picking one of these up as soon as they hit the shelves in my area or if I can find one on the net.

As a SA guy ( custom Milspec to Myspec and a TRP) I was a slab sided snob until a friend bought the XD45. I just refused to believe that a plastic gun would work. I ended up shooting the thing just to shut him up. Dammit. They work. They work well, they work really really well. I bought one and soon it became my daily carry. The custom 1911 went to my son as a graduation present. ( I am still trying to buy it back from him, but he is too smart to sell it to me). My TRP has become a safe queen and I am looking to have it tweaked.

I liked my XD45 So much I jumped on a .40 when I found one new in the box for $385.00 on Gunbroker.com.
Yep $385.00, with all the gear too. ( I bought a 2nd .45 for $399.00 but this was before the end of the world, Obamas win) I qualified for the extra mags and everything. I cannot say enough about the wonder polymer that out glocks the glock. I am waiting on an XD(M) in .45 ACP ( They have to build it eventually). Until then I am happy to send brass flying with my 2 4's. I will probably get a 9mm if I can find one for a good price. My XD45 holds 13 and with base extenders holds 15 rounds. That's firepower. The .40 will hold 15 with extenders and comp mags will hold even more.

The big bonus, they are great to carry concealed.

I know we all love the 1911. If I win the lottery I am buying one from every smith I can. But until then, try an XD as a truck gun ( one you toss in the truck) and you will find yourself shooting it more often than you realize.

I work in a shop and we have been selling the M's as quick as we can put them on the shelf. All of the reports we have received have the pistols shooting as well or better than the standard model. If I could shoot a XD worth a darn I would probally buy one, but that would cut into my LTW raffle funds.

Mine is a shooter - trigger isn't as crisp as I would have liked, but for a plastic gun it isn't bad.

The only issue I have had is that the slide won't lock back with Remington UMC Bulk ammo.

There are base pads and mag wells available for the XDm. Capacity on the 9mm is 24 rounds and 21 rounds of .40 s&w. The base pads can be use with or without the mag well.

My old PD has some in T&E due to problems with the G22. So far they are real impressed with them.

Does the grip feel similar to the standard XD?
