My Tripp Research 2011 needed a new home for IDPA. On the 1911 forum, I saw some test pieces and demos that Rocky from Pure Kustom Holsters (http://www.purekustomholsters.com/) had done. I was blown away.... I HAD to own one. HAD to.

I contacted Rocky and he offered to build it just the way I wanted... low cut, low rise and straight cant.

Might not be classic style exactly, but that is nonetheless AWESOME.

Looks like you and Rocky (and STI and Mr. Tripp) hit the spot! :D

The flames certainly attest to it being a race inspired lookin' rig.

Does the body-guard get in the way of a full firing grip? I just looks like it crowds the left side stock panel and covers the mag-release?

Jason,
While it would appear so, my grip is unimpeded. The grip is twisted out to aid in its retrieval and because the STI grip is so fat, I can get a full grip straight away.

What I wanted was a leather holster that mimicked the race holster position that I use in USPSA. Rocky and I had multiple conversations about the rules and this holster goes RIGHT to the edge of legal without stepping over the line. For a carry holster, I'd really want the gun about .75" higher and with the grip turned into my side.

Rocky, while new at making holsters, is truly an artisan in leather. He and I have spent a lot of time on the phone discussing the differences in philosophy of a gamer holster vs a true carry rig. I couldn't get over the detail of his tool work.

Here's another version of the same with a more traditional position:
