UPDATE!! 5-17-09
WE HAVE A WINNER

I just got a call from Stan Chen and Mark Downing of LTW, two of our guys in the trenches at the NRA Show. I don't know a whole lot about the drawing yet but I have some, ah, very important tidbits. They asked me to post it since apparently connectivity at the Show is bad or nonexistent (matter of fact it took three cel calls to get the info to me.)

Naturally we won't divulge the winner's name until has is contacted and gives permission-- that's in the works, a message has been left for him. What I can tell you, and you guys will love this, is that

-THE WINNER'S INITIALS ARE JMB

-He is from Austin, TX

-His ticket number was 1131

Thank you americansnipers.org for doing all you do to keep our deployed snipers supplied with the critical things they need to say alive, safe, and reasonably comfortable.

Thank you a thousand times over to all who bought tickets--- you have all won too by helping keep our fighting men and women safe. Many of us have friends and relatives over there and who knows who may get to go home safe because of one little $10 donation.

Thank you a thousand time over, and tenfold, to you people over there doing the dangerous and gritty work.

Thanks Stan, John VanZyke, Mark, and the rest of yous that went to the NRA Show to represent LTW. I know that was a lot of work and out of pocket expense.

It was a great time.

I donated to a great cause yet...again!

Congrads to the winner, and a big thanks to the LTW crew for putting this together. Great job all the way around.

Best
Mark

We all had a great time and all the work everyone from LTW and especially those who donated to the cause was well worth it. Maj. John Plaster pulled the winning numbers and Ted Yost signed the check.

I have to echo what Ned said. Thanks to all of you for the support. Everyone here gets a great sense of satisfaction helping those men and women securing our future. We generally never meet any of the people that all of us here at LTW ultimately assist. But in the end it doesn't matter we are fortunate to be able to do so.

Now on to one person who absolutley gets a HUGE thanks and that is our own Stan Chen. Like Ned before him Stan did a fantastic job staying on top of this project and ensuring that we provided the best product we can. Being able to raise that kind of money in this economy has everything to do with Stan's work ethic and the people we attract here at LTW.

Awesome job done by all. Thanks again.

The amount collected by American Snipers was $25,160 !!

It's nice to see that even in a down economy good people will dig deep to help a worthy cause. Thank you everyone who donated on this project.

Like I said on my post on the Projects board, thanks to all of the folks who contributed to the prize package, and my deepest thanks to all those who donated to the American Snipers operation.

I've been a donor to lots of good causes over the years, and once even won a .45 in a raffle. No, lightning didn't strike twice! The first .45 I won was a .45 LC/.410 single barrel derringer, about useless for anything other than a conversation piece. It shoots, if you have 2 hands available to unsafe it.

I'm looking forward to a long relationship with LTW and supporting their projects. I hope to get some good photos when I receive the package and will post them when I do.

I'm presently void of JMB-designed guns, unless you count a certain Spanish-named knockoff. I most recently had a 1919A4, which I now regret selling. But then, I regret selling every gun I've ever sold. Maybe the above-mentioned .45 LC will be the exception. ;-)

I know a guy in Dallas who has an example of just about every gun JMB ever designed. He's a fun guy to shoot with, but bring lots of ammo!

Later!

What make was your 'A4? My Mom and Dad both worked at Saginaw Steering Gear making them, in '43-'44.

Well, I got the prize package today and I'm really overwhelmed. Still! Photos were taken of the transfer; I will post them ASAP (I don't have them yet). No chance to get to the range till perhaps Sunday PM, and I will write a range report.

LTW #6 is a much nicer gun than I would probably buy for myself. The execution appears to be flawless. Trigger letoff is like the proverbial glass rod. Crisp!. I think I could learn to like 1911's after I shoot this for a while.

Thanks again to all the craftsmen and dealers who had a hand in this, and to all who bought tickets. Let's keep our men in the Sandbox properly equipped.

I am sure you will get lots of enjoyment out of it, and I don't think you could pick a better tool to protect your life with. That pistol is flawless in design, execution and function.

Congrats!

Ned,

I can't trace the origins of my former machine gun back to your parents, sorry to say. But there's a gun out there somewhere that they touched. My A4 was a postwar production "sideplate gun". The right sideplate was manufactured by CATCO and registered with BATF sometime before the '86 cutoff. It was married to a parts kit by Bob Landies of Ohio Ordnance, who is a craftsman in his own right. I was the second owner of the gun. It ran like a top. I put probably 20k rounds through it at various shoots. The only problem I had was a broken sear.

My 1911 isn't new any more! I shot it about 10 days ago, and all I can say is "Wow! Wow! Wow!". I'm no pistolero, but I was able to keep a full box of ammo in a 3" group at 15 yards. I could learn to love shooting this gun! It clearly shoots better than I do. I'm gonna have to get me a jug of group tightener and drink 'er down! We'll see how I shoot then! ;-)
