Another year has come and gone and it is hard to believe. Realizing I don't post as much I do read a lot of the posts here on LTW, and as I expected you guys are keeping up the good work. So having said that it is time for us to unveil the latest LTW project. Again, after the successful campaign last year it was easy for us to stay with Naval Special Warfare Foundation. It is always a pleasure working with the staff, and we whole heartedly believe in the work they do.
Jason and I ended up being responsible for this project this year. After sitting down and going through a few ideas, we thought it appropriate to go with a retro theme. Fortunately for us Joyce Rubino at Colt was wonderful to work with as they donated a new production Colt Series 70 for the build.
There are alot of two tone fans out there and I am amongst them. The thing that set this project apart is all the ancillary items that just seemed to go with it perfectly. We are fortunate to have a relationship with Strider Knives who built a one off custom "BR" model knife. John Ralston may have come up with some of the finest leather to come from his shop. The old school Bruce Nelson influenced rigs in tan with the white stitching. Simply gorgeous.
Clint and Heidi Smith donated the entire Thunder Ranch DVD training collection. Stan Chen donated his newest ammunition offering. Trust me, this is the best ammo most of us have seen. To be honest, I never expected to look at a bullet and admire how nice it was done. This stuff is meticulously produced and if you know Stan at all that should not be a surprise.
Ted was able to have an individual by the name of Tony Hernandez who is a professional photographer donate his time to create some of these pictures and they are fantastic. Tony is a friend and we are lucky to have him working with LTW on this project.
LTW Board member Tony Barnes and the fine people at Brownells donated the parts that eventually went into the build.
The drawing for this project will happen on May 1, 2011 at the NRA convention in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Keep looking here as we get the mechanism up to purchase tickets on the internet. There is an upcoming American Handgunner article coming out soon on this year's effort.
Now the gun.
-New production Series 70 Colt
-Two tone hard chrome under blue slide
-Kart barrel
-Wilson ambi safety
-Heirloom Precision retro grip safety
-Hand checkered 30 lpi checkering
-Custom VZ walnut stocks (which are becoming my favorites)
-Yost retro rear sight
-French bordered slide
-And a number of details that my partner in crime will expand on and provide additional pictures.
As always, all of us at LTW appreciate your support and we always say we would never be successful without all of you on this forum. Hope everyone is well. Be safe. This was a lot of fun for Jason and I to build.
