Got it done with several hours to spare. THAT's whatcha call planning!

(EDIT, 3/30/24) Original pics gone. See https://forum.ltwguns.com/viewtopic.php ... &start=300

Image

The MSH has no retaining pin-- so I could round-butt it to my heart's content. Angled slots in the frame, a lug and a protruding pin on the MSH cam it into place under the pressure of the hammer strut pushing on the mainspring.
Image

The rounded butt and the recoil spring plug made from a 5/8" grade 8+ Allen bolt.
Image

From the top:
Image

Hope that's rounded enough 'cause it's gonna have to do.... for now.... in the process of doing this one I came up with a way to do more next time. There is also an extreme girth reduction to the MSH.

Image

Rear of the slide. Shield Driver rear sight, made here.
Image

Bidness end. That's a .50 GI, 230-grain solid copper HP. They do 1000 out of a 5", this barrel is about 5/8" shorter.
Image

The magwell was made by me from a piece of 4130. It's not huge in outside dimensions but looks pretty big in this bottom view. No width or height added to the pistol.
Image

Left side whole view. I wanted to get these up but won't be able to post for a few days.

Outstanding Gun Ned!

We must be drinking the same beverage, I have a mainspring housing with no pin on the bench...lol.

WOW!!! Can't wait to fingerprint this thing up in LV! Just the MSH alone is a piece of art work, very cool and one off way of doing it...as only Ned would do...the bar has been RAISED again.

Lot's to choose from. A custom grade 5 hex bolt, the custom MSH system, and Shield Driver sights are always a favorite. So far, my favorite part of the build, from what I have noticed, is how the Frag on the front strap matches the Frag on the grips. Great work Ned!

I have to tell you that this pistol is more impressive in person. The touchy, feely factor is amazing

I got to handle this gun at the Shot Show. All I can say is WOW. Ned went all out on this one. Excellent craftsmanship from a master in a great carry gun.

Ned, as always, I'm impressed!
The ms/hsg stuff is sheer genius.
I'm sorry that I will prolly never 'hold'
that pistol in a defensive posture.
But if I did..........I'd feel VERY, VERY well defended.

Yes, the execution is sick. That mainspring housing is off the charts.

The amazing thing is that when you try and find the joints on the MSH you need a magnifier. The fit is that close.

Saw and fondled this bad boy at SHOT (and finally got to meet Ned). The pics here don't come close to portraying what the gun actually looks like. Visually the gun has beautiful proportions and says "All business- all the time!". The fine details are even finer in person (once you put on your glasses or borrow Ned's loop!). BUT, the proof is in the hand when you first pick it up. Now, I'm a Colt guy to the bone and I have more than my fair share of custom 1911s from great and recognized names. I'm not a .50 fan boy, I didn't think it would last when first introduced. I also tend to like "pretty 1911s". This, however, was the best feeling 1911 I've put in my hand. I could easily carry this one to the grave. Yeah. Plus, I would never have to ever worry again about answering to the old line of, "Mister, why do you carry a .45?"
