Deezulsmoke here. Some of you may know me from other forums. I wanted to "showcase" the first completed kitchen table project from my house. Base gun is a SA Mil-Spec. Was built for my son. Please be kind as this was my first ever attempt at checkering and some of the other work. I did practice on some steel bar before taking on the front strap. The only MIM left is the disconnector and hammer. The grips are slab cut woodgrips.com 1/2 checker cocobolo. Not bad grips for $40.00

S&A 220 beavertail full blending and fitting
CMC hammer (will be changed)
CMC ambi safety
Brown firing pin
Wilson MSH parts with 18# mainspring
Wolff 18.5# recoil spring
CMC trigger
Wilson slide stop
STI sear
EGW angle bore bushing
S&A 20 LPI flat MSH with loop

4 # trigger
All ignition parts polished, mated and fluffed
Mild dehorn
Blended extractor (that thing stuck out 1/4 inch in the back!)
Polished feedramp
Polished and throated chamber
Polished hammer rail (disconnector rail)
Trigger area relieved when checkered for my son's smaller hands
25 LPI checkering

Satin media blast finish by Pat McAndrews at PM Customs in Loveland CO. He will have a pistol coming up in Combat Handguns soon.

Feedback on a first attempt?

Deez.

Nice looking gun. How does it shoot? I have always thought about doing one myself but I know my mechanical limits and those short comings would bother me everytime I picked it up. I'll leave that work up to the artisans. I am glad to see others give it a whirl.

My son is 14. He can shoot less than 2 inches consistently with it at 15 yards off hand. Much better shot than his old man. I also have a reworked GI that I shoot with a one piece SA stainless barrel, blue EGW angle bore bushing, Brown firing pin, USGI MSH and slide stop, USGI wide spur hammer, 18# MSH spring, 18.5# Wolff recoil spring, Yo-Bo retro rear sight, Kings #104 front sight, STI sear. 3.5# trigger pull on this one. I shoot it very well, he blows my doors off. All kidding aside, the SA that I did for him shoots just as good as my 1.5 inch Rock River Hard Chrome EC 5 inch. That is with me shooting the Rock and him shooting the SA. Now when I give him the Rock, stand back! He just does not like the lighter 3.5 # pull on the Rock. That is why I kept the pull on this one a bit higher. The trigger on the SA with the STI sear and my tweaking is every bit as good as the Rock, just not as light. It really needs a better non-MIM hammer to complete the work there. The next thing will be a Kart barrel, but I am not sure that I will do that. The barrel is the SA stainless and it is jut a tiny loose at the barrel hood, tight at the bushing, and the slide is just a tiny loose on the rails, but it is a tack driver.

Deez.

Lucky kid. I love seeing guys shaping up the next generation like that, nice job on both fronts there, Deez.

The checkering looks great from what I can see-- I commend you on it and having the guts to try it!

Thanks all. I added a couple of pics that show the checkering before finishing and the backstrap detail.
